Doug I think even this season, Trent has been better than he is given credit for. Our best plays usually still involve him.

Barrett to me was man of the match last week especially when Smith came on and was giving him some space.Like you CP i wish there had been better players around him and then the worlds your oyster.Having said that if the way the team played last friday more expansive rugby instead of one out up the middle stuff he would have monopolised in every game we played.
Yes he will be up there with all the memories so glad that i have watched one of the finest players who gave his every match pity hes going home.

Even though Trent has decided to cut his stay a year short for family reason (no arguments there) this has potentially meant perhaps less effort/desire to play well this season.

In a few years will be regard Barrett as one of the great ones or will he be in the class of Dallas, Lam or Iro?

There is no question he is world class last year proved that.
What was wrong with Dallas, Lam and Iro??? :conf: They may not have been great to you, but a lot of supporters would add them to the list of great players for Wigan, Dallas was a very loyal servant to Wigan, Lam was a very good player and was under 21's coach as well so passed on his knowledge, the only thing I have against Iro is that he went to play for saints. But yes Barrett would be with the likes of Hanley, Bell, Botica etc :)
Think your doing a dis-service to Hanley Bell and botica there. They did it year after year whereas baz did it last year but sadly only in glimpses this year. Have to agree with other posters though that its down to the team around him this year and the fact he's going home at the end of the season

I'd put Edwards above him, too, IMO.

Botica wasn't far behind and he could kick goals a bit too!

Sorry if I upset anyone, re Barrett, but I agree with CP, if Barrett had been playing for Saints or Leeds no one would have been able to touch them. I do agree that Edwards, Botica, Hanley Bell etc are all Wigan Legends but still think Barrett is one of our great players. :)
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Lam falls in this catagory also, Smith and Pongia.

Lam was one of the reasons we had a little success in the SL era. He was an outstanding player and a very good coach for us.

Likewise Craig Smith who puts all our props since to shame. He had all the talents needed and whatsmore a heart far bigger than most I have seen. I can remember him playing virtually crippled on one knee and still outplaying opposition players. Running down opposition backs.

Pongia was at the tailend of his career but his cameo spot was very good and that was curtailed by 'health issues' I can give you his phone number if you want to discuss it with him.

We see things differently.

Lam was annonymous in his early Wigan career and "improved" as the team deteriorated around him.

Smith only started to play once Pongia signed and they had a god couple of seasons between them until the Bulls (and Fielden) ripped them apart at Old Trafford.

Oh you are a little name dropper!
