Re: Why im laughing at you

It's good to see a Latics fan whose prepared to make some argument on here that's a bit more interesting that "the town is turning blue". As mentioned elsewhere I don't normally bother taking on you soccer fans but since you've gone to all this effort:-
>> Well if rugby's a family sport then there cant be many families watching it. The only reason there is never violence at rugby matches is because a)there aren't enough people present, and b)rugby doesn't invoke that kind of passion. Every football club has a contingent of fans (usually young males) who participate in organised violence, but since football is a working class sport I think this behaviour is best tolarated as long as innocents aren't targeted.
You're conveniently forgetting our average attendances are much higher than yours, so there must be more people, including families at rugby games. To suggest there's no passion at rugby matches is ludicrous, given how many amateur teams there are around Wigan perhaps a lot of people take out their aggression by playing the game instead of just belting whoever gets in their way outside the match. A fact is that the only people who have threatened me were a group of Liverpool fans outside a pub after watching their team lose on tv, whilst I was a bit flattered that they recognised a Wigan shirt I couldn't understand why they threatened violence against someone who has no interest in them or their sport. I have never had any threats from other rugby fans.
Rugby league is by definition a working class sport, it was people like the pit workers who needed to be paid when taking time off work to play that caused the split between rugby league and union back in 1895. I can't believe you're condoning organised violence, that's incredible! What planet are you on? Do the thugs make sure they don't hit any innocent bystanders or damage anyone's property? I think not, so innocent people can always be victims of their violence.
>> And how exactly does rugby stop peolple becoming football hooligans?????? Surley being encouraged to gain wait and thrust your hands into opponents faces only promotes violent behaviour?
Football is supposed to be non-contact sport, yet seems to encourage all kinds of violent behaviour. Rugby doesn't involve thrusting hands into opponents faces, players don't carry the ball with their noses. Weight is completely irrelevant when it comes to violence, the boxer Prince Naseem Hamed weights about 3 1/2 stone.
>> As for groundsharing, wigan rl REFUSED to let Latics play games at central park at a time when the football club was in administration. 20 years later with wigan rl on the brink of bankrupcy Latics did agree to a groundshare and thats what saved your bacon, without us youd probably be playing in skem.
Call me naive, but doesn't the ground belong to Dave Whelan. HE decides who plays there, not either of the two clubs that he also owns. To say Latics saved us to nonsense, we (and you) have both got Mr Whelan to thank for the continued existence of our clubs.
>> As for rugby being good for the town, IT ISN'T!!
Oh yes it is.
>> I've just spent 6 months living in Bangkok and bought the Bangkok Post every day. Latics were mentioned at least once per week (after matches) and on one occassion a half page article outlined the clubs achievments over the past decade (2 league titles, 200 percente increase in crowds). I took great pleasure in talking about this with my thai friends and educating them further. In comparison not one article in 6 months was written in the paper about rugby league.
I have no idea what you're getting at here. So they don't play rugby in Thailand? Do you think Latics get mentioned in the newspapers in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland etc? I think not, but you'll be able to read all about the Superleague in Eastern Australia and New Zealand.
>> So what if the indepenmdent had a big article about billy boston? Tuesdays guardian had a 2 page article about Ashaf Therat do you know who he is? no neither do and thats my point exactly.
What point? You said no-one cares, I gave an example of how a national newspaper seems to think people care outside the M62 corridor. As for Ashaf Therat, who cares? He doesn't play football or rugby, indeed doesn't appear on a google search so can't be of any relevance to anything. A google search for Billy Boston returns approx 3500 references.
>> He's famous in Wales - nice one!
And? You're not.
>> Sean Long? glamorous?? what planet are you on? If he's your sports most glamorous player then its obvious why your sport has trouble promoting itself outside its traditional bases.
Oh dear. Perhaps I should have added a sarcasm tag to that comment. If you knew who he was then you would realise I was taking the p*ss.
>> You say football will fall out of fashion but it hasn't for the last 40 years and i see no reason why it would do so now.
Really? Back in the late 70's and 80's it was famous only for the amount of trouble on the terraces. Crowds were dwindling, and the fact that competitions such as the "European Champions along with anyone finishing in the top 4 League" seem to constantly change their formats suggest people keep getting bored. Clubs are going bankrupt, the idea of a soccer team from Leeds being in so much trouble is laughable but eventually the money problems are going to catch up.
>> Latics will play at least 5 games in london next season, watched by over 90000 peolple in total in the capital. How many southerners will watch the warriors next season?
Wigan will play in the South of France in a couple of years, how many French speccies will watch the Latics in the next couple of years? A stupid comparison, we only have 1 team to play in London, so obviously the crowds will be lower.
>> Glad your salary caps been lifted, it won't be long before your broke again through bad management and come crawling cap in hand.....................
Yawn.
Nice try, but get your facts right before coming back again.
