Are we getting a Union coach?
Re: Are we getting a Union coach?
Now that is interesting Voodoo
Re: Are we getting a Union coach?
I agree, very interesting. However, I would like to see how he would go on in a club environment, as yet he's unproved in that arena. I know people will make the comparison with McLennan at Leeds, but he inherited a really good side. It would still be interesting to see how he goes on.

The bit in the article that says:
Who can give me an incite into this uneasy relationship? I haven't heard much if anything about these two not getting on.
interested me.Ian Lenagan, the Wigan chairman with whom Noble has never enjoyed an easy relationship ...

Neither have I, Mike. I think it's probably just paper talk. There may have been a comment made a while ago and a journalist has picked up on it and put two and two together and got about 23.Mike wrote:The bit in the article that says:interested me.Ian Lenagan, the Wigan chairman with whom Noble has never enjoyed an easy relationship ...

Re: Are we getting a Union coach?
Union=kick & clap
League = OUR game
i am not getting into any arguements over this but Shaun Edwards had a great talent for playing both codes while at school , and he chose our game ( thank god)
i cannot see what this Aussie union guy could possibly bring to our club
i agree it is probably paper talk

Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White
Re: Are we getting a Union coach?
I noticed that as well. I think certain posters (CPW?) have hinted Noble and IL have not seen eye to eye over signings. It may have been on here or rlfans but I am sure someone posted Noble was overruled on his choice of Higham's replacement for example.Mike wrote:The bit in the article that says:interested me.Ian Lenagan, the Wigan chairman with whom Noble has never enjoyed an easy relationship ...

Re: Are we getting a Union coach?
Just because IL & BN didn't necessarily agree does not mean that one or other is secretly sharpening knives. It's a silly rumour and destructive to our club ethic. Aren't we meant to be supporters? I.E. we support WRLFC?
Anyway back to rumours about Eddie Jones. Well it's in the Grauniad so it must be true (???).
It's not as if in the last 100 years or so we haven't poached the odd bit of talent from the dark side, and some were very good indeed. The fact that they may have started working for Darth Vader is neither here nor there. The only questions are are they good for our club and good for our game?
Someone who threatens the security and consistency which is slowly but surely building under Mr Lenagan and Mr Noble is no good. I can't believe that they would be so foolish. Whether this guy helps, I have no idea, but I suspect it's all pie in the sky.
Incidentally, when are the Pies on Sky?

Re: Are we getting a Union coach?
It is fairly common knowledge that Noble and Lennagan are not exactly 'close' Both men have big egos and love having those egos stroked. Neither man copes very well with being challenged. Within the current Wigan set up there are virtually all individuals who are what some would term 'yes' men. So the only source of tension possible is between coach and owner.
Let nobody be fooled though BOTH are street fighters in the sense of getting what they want and by that I do not mean they seek only confrontation but rather they will do whatever it takes to get their way and if that means putting on 20 different faces then they will.
My own opinion of Noble is that he is a limited coach. However, if you were in a room listening to him or had a conversation with him he is very persuasive and plausible. You do not get rep coaching jobs without having the gift of the gab particularly to certain audiences. Likewise Lennagan can operate a room, work opinion, sell himself.
Within the game, Noble does not have a good reputation. It is hard to find anybody who has a good word to say about him.
I do not think Lennagan will spend the money to secure big name coaches though. If he had to sack a coach, I have no doubt the compensation issue would weigh heavily with him.
The amount of tension with sport is quite great though. Two members of the coaching staff exchanged heated words recently and that actually related to the sycophantic approach by one of those towards coach and owner. Lanzarote was not an idyllic training week for the players. An idea to embark on a cycling session degenerated into chaos / farce. During the week several players went OTT taking the P out of each other.
Coach / owner may not be bussom buddies but they are both very pragmatic IMO.

The first game for us on Sky is against Harlequins Saturday 28th Februarystevethegas wrote:Incidentally, when are the Pies on Sky?

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
