Here is an example of a differing opinion , just for HC (Jim)!old hooker wrote: Neither hooker is breaking any pots but Riddell has to be given a chance,he was certainly good enough in the NRL.Mcilorum not good enough, offers us nothing and compared with other 9s in Super League he is way down the list.
Riddell. According to the above he has to be given a chance. Why? He has had 8 of them already and as an experienced NRL pro he has been a major disappointment so therefore deserves all the criticism he gets.
McIllorum. Has IMO outplayed Riddell when he has been given a game IMO and offers a spark and some passion Riddell has failed to. He is also another young player like Goulding who is being compared to established senior pros and being written off because he can't match them.
If people want a rule of thumb of who to keep and who to get rid as contracts expire, adopt the one Wayne Bennett espouses - get rid of the older player. In our case some of the senior players are the ones lacking application so it would not as if that would be a controversial thing to do. There is a balance of course between youth and experience but the experienced players need to prove they are worth the shirt more than the younger lads at the moment as the majority of the younger lads at least put the effort in.
