Interesting that Wigan see Lee as a prop, I had a discussion with IL shortly after he bought the club and he told me the same!!!!

LOL no Rich. Read my blog and you made me break my wildcat strike

Flannagan and Goulding have also been offered to Barrow but both said they did not want to go.
CP whats the score with Flannagan,he's 20+ & yet doesnt make the 19 man squad. Is he going to make a 1st team player in your opinion.
I was never a fan. I believe he is the Godson of Nobby and his signing was clouded. However, he's been the form player in the reserves this season so far. I have always thought he is not big enough to have a strong physical presence. A poor man's Hansen but as I say his form has been very very good in 2009

We have back rowers a plenty at the club. We should never sign a back rower for the next decade. What the club has to decide is will they keep playing/retain a Bailey who is never going to get any better or do they accept that in the immediate one of the young back rowers whilst not offering as much as Bailey will offer far more in the long term. The Wayne Bennett quote in my blog post is the ideal way to manage a squad IMO. Nobody in TL has kept a club at/near the top of a competition for as liong as Bennett has so no disrespect to anybody else, he knows more than IL, Noble or CPW or anybody else.

Why did Flanagan refuse to go? The experience would do him good he went to Halifax last year.

Goulding - how come he didn't want to go? An insult to be loaned to a NL1 club?
I guess it is more complicated than we think/know. If you go to a NL club they are nearly all part time. Ideally in such circumstances players want a club near to Wigan that allows them to train with the NL club BUT also with Wigan too. I cannot understand Leigh not being more active in asking to loan Wigan players.

Maybe players of a certain age hold out hoping to either get a SL club permanently interested or for a season long loan. Maybe Wigan differ from Saints who like players going to SL clubs. Perhps Wigan do not. Scot Moore has 2 seasons SL experience now and if KC retires they now have a young experienced SL hooker to replace him.

Prsonally I think players should be going out on loan earlier/younger thn they do.

It is a very good decision IMO Giz. I think Lee is more of a prop than Hock who people often say of, play him at prop. I think Hock should be doing plenty of hard yard close to the POTB runs but he's also needed out wide.

I do not understand how/why present day Wigan seem to fix players into position from virtually play 1 with back rowersout wide and props down the middle.

I was thinking about Flannagan the other day - why do we have him here? Ok initially when he came there was talk of him breaking through due to some talent he had, unluckily with injuries now he doesnt seem to push for a 19man squad place all too often. He's getting to an age (like a few other lads) where it's make or break time.

He's a technically very good back rower. Mobile, agile, very good defensive technique and willing but it's how players fit together as a back row where his problem lies. Lockers, Flannagan, Hansen give you much of a muchness. Hence why a Hock type player is very important. Truth be told I think Flannagan at the highest level would be a loose forward rather than a second row.

Like all the present reserve forwards whether they make at Wigan or not, they are all capable of having very good RL Careers at the top of NL or whatever they call it now or with some SL clubs.

The 'close' relationship between Noble and Terry Flannagan has never helped Flannagan in the long run.

Lee Mossop signs for Barrow Raiders

Post by cumbria_warrior »

Lee mossop has signed a month loan deal at barrow raiders with the option to extend. from local paper below

"The 20-year-old West Cumbrian featured from the bench for the Warriors as they beat Barrow 32-20 in the Challenge Cup on Sunday.

And Johnston used the opportunity to woo both the player and his club into letting the second rower sign a one-month loan deal at Craven Park, revealing his hand late yesterday, with the deal done in time for Mossop to feature against Whitehaven today (3pm kick-off).

“He’s a great signing for the club and we’re delighted to have him,” he said.

“It will give Clarky strength in depth.

“We have had to work hard on this one.

“Until Wigan arrived and experienced the hospitality we showed them and the performance on the pitch, I think they just thought of us as Barrow.

“But after the showing from the team and the public of Barrow and all the hard work that went in this deal has been done.”

Johnston — who thanked both Warriors chairman Ian Lenagan and coach Brian Noble for their parts in getting the deal through before yesterday’s 2pm deadline – revealed he had spoken to Mossop after Sunday’s game.

He added: “I said to Lee on the pitch at full-time last week ‘Lee Mossop, I’m Des Johnston.

“We’re going to see a lot more of each other in he future.’ I don’t think he knew what I was talking about!

“We have wanted this lad in for a few weeks now and we have eventually got our man.

“He’s a Cumbrian lad, he’s from Whitehaven, so he will be straight in the squad for the game against them.

“It has been touch and go, but we have got it all registered in time for the game.

Coach Dave Clark was similarly delighted, saying: “It’s fantastic for us. Ambitions are high this year and on the back of the performance last week everyone is on a high.

“It’s great to have another guy coming in, especially with the big weekend we have got coming up with the games against Whitehaven and Leigh (on Easter Monday). Lee has got all the tools.”

Former Hensingham amateur Mossop trained with the Barrow team for the first time at Craven Park last night.

He has signed an initial one-month loan deal, but Barrow have the option for a two-month extension, with the possibility also there that the deal might run through the whole season, giving Mossop valuable game time and developing his game.

The man himself admits to having been surprised by the quality of the Raiders team last week and is looking forward to his debut.

“It’s a challenge for me and I’m really looking forward to it and getting started,” said Mossop. "
