you just dont understand wats going on here ,DW is giving latics his shares in the stadium ,he simply cant afford to fund them in the premiership so has to sell latics.he cant do it as they officially dont have there own stadium ,by giving them his shares and making them the major shareholder in the stadium this then means he can flog them of to some 1 who can afford to invest in them,Dave Whelan dosnt have the Billions it takes now to compete in the premier league ,when it was millions he could so his only logical way out his to sell them.Come on he cant even get a stadium sponsor so whos going to buy a small team in the prem

I recall Father Jack saying he would give the stadium to the town of Wigan.
I also recall IL saying at the first fans forum that the Rugby club had a 99 year lease on the stadium. DW now claims to have increased it to 50 years?

no matter what he says he does not give a chit about the rugby club

he said the stadium would be for the people of Wigan
typical Whelco tactics

cannot wait for that lot to get relegated back to where they belong

Hadn't looked at it like that .....makes a lot of sense.

How many clubs actually OWN their stadium ,as far as I am aware most are owned by the local council and the club lease it from them.

Yeah but surely he should have split his shares between the two clubs...

He no longer has any financial connection to Wigan Warriors.
Splitting his shares halves the value of the stadium as an asset if he sells the football club.
This is being done with the sole motive of making the football club more attractive to potential buyers.

I believe that the council also own 15% of the stadium.

If the council own 15% of the stadium odoes that mean Wigan Athletic owns th eother 85%? and on the matter of exstending the warriors lease by another 50years is this on top of our 99yrs we are supposed to have already. Dave Wheelan has for year stired up bad blood between both clubs as anyone reading mike gregory book can atest to. Dave wheelen is only interested in himself and being mister big the same as his puppet morris lynsey. I could go on but wont waist anymore space on those 2 ingrates.

The other 85% currently belong to the holding company Whelco.
As he owns both entities (Whelco and Wigan Athletic) he is simply transferring shares from one area of his business to another, so there is no sale of shares at the moment.
He is strengthening Wigan Athletic by increasing its' assets to make it a more attractive proposition to any potential buyers.
As for the "extended" lease to the Warriors, I find this a bit confusing.
The actual quote says it has been extended TO 50 years. I am hoping this actually is 50 more on top of the original 99 year lease we were led to believe existed.
