Which in reality are far worse, he has funded international drug cartels and local crime, it is all linked together, it puts the message out to young ones that as long as you are gifted you can get away with shit, sorry but if this had happened and it had been the likes of Moran/Hodgson/Malam etc everybody would be calling for their heads, i have been involved in some dodgy shit (early 90's) and done some very bad things, getting the book thrown at me taught me a lesson and i have been on the straight and narrow for 13 years (don't even drink or smoke anymore), Hock will throw this back in the face of Wigan, he cannot be trusted, he has nothing to lose now, once you enter into the slippery world of Drug abuse it is long and ardous path out of it with many pitfalls and set backs along the way.OAMJS wrote:in other times at our club he would have been fired off straight away. But the things he took where not performance enhancing but recreational, do not get me wrong he as still done wrong and deserves punishment. Hock Latest?

Re: Hock Latest?
Medlocke, you managed to turn your life around, and im sure people close to you and others were very supportive. Are now saying that Hock should not be given the chance to prove himself to the rugby league community and to himself? As a social worker, I think anyone who has got themselves in trouble or got an addiction should be supported, a sportsman is no different! After all if you can do it, then so can he! The ball is in his court and if he comes back clean and hungry then good for him and those that have had belief in him.....im sure without a support network you to would have struggled!

Medlocke you have to relise once the time is done thats it, Back to normal life, you have done things wrong and I am sure you would not want these things hanging over your head for rest of your life, 2 YEAR out is enough for a mistake, a normal job hardly ever even suspend you at all for the same substances

Surely everyone deserves a second chance in all walks of life. Even murderers can potentially be released.
As for drugs. I have never touched them but I believe many politicians have and yet we trust them with far more than a sporstman. What % of the entertainment world have indulged? musicians, acors/actresses, sportsmen/women?

I dont profess to understand gareth's home / personal life as some do on here
However I personally believe that he should be given a 2nd chance once he has served his time
IMO Wigan should retain his registration if we can and put something in place i.e. community work (if it fits in with whatever job he gets over the next 2 years) and strict rehab including weekly testing and let Gareth show his determination to get back with the clubs support (if it is allowed under the rules / regs of the sport)
If he sticks to it and circumstances are correct then we sign him after the 2 years are up because all the other clubs in Super league would sign him irrelevant of what he has done
If not we let him go and another club takes the risk

he deffo deserves another chance. gods sake it not like hes taken performance drugs.
i think every true wigan warriors supporter should support him regardless of the outcome and if they bring a new shirt out next season i will have hock name on my back.

Re: Hock Latest?
think the total condemnation of gaz is not what he needs he needs the support of everyone yes he took drugs yes he needs punishment but if he wasnt in sport he wouldnt get 2years he would possibly get a suspended sentence with a community drug treatment order ensuring he attended rehab sessions and regular testing
lets not turn our backs on him fully and hope he makes a turn around of his chaotic and stupid lifestyle of drugs and beer and shows what happens when you show determination to beat drugs
and yes i work in the drug/abuse field so yes i know what i am talking about

Re: Hock Latest?
What has that got to do with it? He knew the rules and knew he was breaking them for several months according to his interview with the NOTW. What the legal position is outside sport has nothing to do with it.simmy1 wrote:think the total condemnation of gaz is not what he needs he needs the support of everyone yes he took drugs yes he needs punishment but if he wasnt in sport he wouldnt get 2years he would possibly get a suspended sentence with a community drug treatment order ensuring he attended rehab sessions and regular testing
The ball is in his court. If he wants to come back into the sport he must subject himself to regular testing over the next two years and if he fails again, it is a life ban.lets not turn our backs on him fully and hope he makes a turn around of his chaotic and stupid lifestyle of drugs and beer and shows what happens when you show determination to beat drugs

Based on his NOTW interview and how he was unable to exercise self control over months then IMO the odds are against him lasting the two years staying clean.

The thing is he can't chance it as the testers are completely random rather than at a match so too easily caught. Time will tell. Pity if he does not return, Jim
