Fraggle, stop being a scrooge and wanting a couple of £ off the season ticket. I have been talking today to a Leeds United fan who is incensed that she has to pay £460 for next season when they are in the first division not the premiership. Wigans prices are a bargain, particularly with the rugby we have seen in the past month.
Just remember our average attendance whilst creeping up must be a good 3/4000 behind the Whinoes average, the salary cap for all our players at £1.8million is just half what Ferdinand gets at Man U and probably a quarter of what the Lactics players are getting :baaa:
It wasn't a serious comment, I have no problem with the amount we pay but lots of people insist it costs too much money to go to rugby matches and that's their (alleged) reason for not going to the JJB. Personally I'd see the money spent on marketing the club better, signs next to major roads, something in the town centre etc to ram the fixtures down people's throats.

As for the salary cap, the only people who think it's fair are people associated with clubs that can't even spend £1.8 million. That's not our fault, but we have to live with it and so need to balance the squad within those limits. I see us having a number of potential centres, hopefully some new props, but no reserve fullback. Surely we need to be filling in gaps in the squad at least as much as bringing in expensive players who will cause us to lose more players. Remember we're up against the limit all the time, we don't have the space under the cap to bring in too many expensive players without having to sacrifice others. Who would we be prepared to lose for this world class centre I keep hearing about (and no, I don't think Dodgy's wages would be enough to pay for any top player).

MrsLam usually reminds us that Melling can play fullback so there is some cover for Radders injuries next year.

As for centres, we've got four players that play there, two natural in Aspinwall and Hodgson and two relief players in Wild and Brown. Apsinwall is as solid as any centre but gets very little recognition for it, his vision of late has let him down and he made a few (in my opinion) wrong passes against Bulls but everyone has bad games. Hodgson is constantly slagged off but his top try scroing last season must mean he's doing something right, he just needs his confidence back.

Then as mentioned we have Colbon coming through and I bet Harrison Hansen could play centre too if required, as can O'Loughlin and Hock. I agree with Fraggle, we have plenty of options without letting players go to bring in well publicised world class players. We have a mix of youth coming through, some established players and Gary Connolly providing experience this season. Our defence is on a similar par to Saints and Bulls with only Leeds and Hull better, however, you have to bare in mind we had quite a few injury troubles in the 3/4s.

Just heard that Martin Gleeson is on his way to Warrington. Perhaps we could sign him - he is British, young and potentiall world class...

Any takers?
The BBC were claiming that we were interested and that the fee would be £200k. Have Warrington got that sort of money?

Heya Jane
going off this story http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200407/s1157775.htm
we assumed that he definitely wasn't coming over here although uncle mo isn't too pleased about this saying he feels let down by the club. What have you heard about it though?

I have to say I have nothing against signing big Aussies as we have had our fair share of some greats its just I see so much potential in the English youth it seems such a shame when we have a bit of spare cash to want to throw it all at some Aussie who isnt really sure if he wants to come but that the mony maybe too good to turn down. I know its a job and people have family to support but our lads are playing with so much local pride as well as confidence its not just about a wage.

Thats what I love about our team too, the fact that most of the team are local lads and in a strange way I feel that pride of knowing that these are local lads. I tried explaining this to a wigan fan who isn't actually from wigan and he was saying to me I don't care if they're local or not, if the aussie lads are gonna win it for us then that's all I care about so he was willing to have a team of foreigners winning cups and only in it for the money than a team of local lads playing for pride. Sounds weird but I know which I'd rather have.

We hav'nt actually got any spare cash, what ever is spent is going to be at the expense of somebody already in the squad.
