No he didn't and that is probably the biggest reason why he lost his job. I will thank him for 2006 but the rest has been the same under achievement for 3 years.

dave sorry mate i have respect for your knowledge and post but if you dont think nobby as moved us forward since he got here ,you have been watching a diffrent team to wat i have,we were 6 pts adrift at the bottom of the league and not even thinking of a play of spot
We have stagnated for three seasons under Noble and the results back this up.

In 2007 we lost 11 games, in 2008 we lost 11 games and in 2009 we lost 12 games. We made several semi finals but lost them all, some badly.

There has been no improvement over the last three years and IL alludes to this in the quotes from him you can see in the Times on line articles

People need to get over the 2006 season and realise Noble has lost his job because of 2007,08 and 09 and realise he could not survive any longer because he got us away from relegation in 2006. 2006 with him in charge was great but he basically blew it for the last three seasons.

He's nice chap and I am sure he views things differently than IL (also given the quotes in the press from the pair of them its obvious he does) but read what IL says and he is right.

By the way I don't agree with how IL has handled this but that is a different subject.

well on form from the previous few years in 07 we shouldnt have made the playoffs, and 08 we should just about of made it, instead he took us to 3rd twice. the gap between 3rd and the top two WAS massive, now it is very small, so small that when we went into the saints game, we were the side tipped to win it.

you tell me if that would have been the case in 07 or even 08.

we overachieved in 07 and 08, but that was down to noble, ofcourse we have moved forward over the past 3 seasons. once we get rid of fieldens massive contract (nobles biggest mistake, but he more than made up for this) we can bring in one or two quality players, and have a real chance of winning the super league.

do you think we had a realistic chance of winning the superleague at the start of the 07 or 08 seasons?

No but we didn't in 09 either. Anyone who thinks a side that loses 12 league games is good enough to win it is deluding themselves. Yes we over acheived in 07 and 08 but we have in 09 as well. 07 and 09 are very similar. We let outselves down with poor performances in both CC semi finals and left ourselves too much to do in the play offs. It's been the same story for three years.

No matter how you see Brian Noble , he has conducted himself with a great deal of dignity .
His handling of the way he has announced his leaving has been explemplary .
Good luck Brian in your new post .

I dispair at the arogant Noble haters, If you were to apply your logic to the rest of supperleage 12 teams need to sack there manager by the end of this week, After all none of them got to the grand final and all are below Leeds and Saints. Grow up wake up and realise you pushed a very talented and modest man through the door

Jim that is silly. Brian Noble says the fans are fantastic. Sean Long oddly does not think much of his coaching either. It is about realising potential. Wakefield finished above us in SL yet our group of players are far better than Wakefields. Hence John Kear achieved more in 2009 than Brian Noble. You could go on. Wigan have a group of players capable of reaching finals but 5 failed attempts says it all. Brian Noble did great to stop us getting relegated even if we did cheat to do so. Thereafter he under achieved with the players he had.

He's not modest BTW and he took his eye off the ball at the end of 2008/close season of 2009.

Put it this way he lasted a damsite longer than the 11 coaches who went before him, good bloke, but for some reason we were just not able to take that next step after 5 attemps at trying to make a final... therefore it is time to give someone else a go.

Its not a slur on the man personally (ala Longy style), its just time for a change!
Wish list: Billy Slater please!!!!!!!!

The only arrogance on display here is people attaching labels like "noble haters" to others.

That aside there is absolutely no logic in what you say. HKR made the playoffs for the first time. This represents improvement. Hudds have improved by actually getting to a final and finishing higher in the regular league season than us. In fact their performance this season has surpassed ours. Warrington won the cup so why would they fire their coach because they didn't also finish higher than us in the playoffs?

Even Salford and Celtic managed to win a few games including against us for Celtic in their first season back in and in SL. It's all relative as to how you judge success and for the third year running four other teams made the two finals on offer, not us.

The bottom line is we are in exactly the same position now as we were in 2007. If you think chairman of any other side wants to see his club make no improvement over three years you are mistaken. The fact our position is we lost two semi finals again is not a good thing. It is because we have lost 5 in total over three years Noble has gone.

As to this comment:

"Grow up wake up and realise you pushed a very talented and modest man through the door"

Don't be so stupid. No one on here pushed Noble anywhere. The reason he lost his job is all down to results, simple as that.

Further to the above at the MoS awards Huddersfield won team of the year and Nathan Brown coach of the year for taking them from 3rd form bottom in 2008 to a cup final in 2009.

If Noble had taken us from relegation candidates in 2006 to a final at any time in between then and now he might still have a job.
