Me too totally agree. Lulu has had an outstanding year and had an outstanding game controlling things well and strong in defence.I think the times when he kicked the ball dead were ideal times to have a bit of a breather and get the defence set and our kicking game overall has improved massively in a short space of time. Tommy is good at throwing a dummy with his eyes but not sure if he knows he's doing it ha. His disallowed try was a great solo effort and the second time in as many weeks a player has deliberately stolen the ball to stop us scoring, should be yellow card and refs should start giving penalty tries for it. Others could have been given MOM and I agree with the analysis of the other top players, I'd even put McIlorum in the frame despite the fact he doesn't play the full game he was outstanding in the last two games. As for Sam I thought in the first half he was possibly trying too hard to do everything himself but the thing is most times it actually came off, as it does :).

Total slip of the tongue by the young lad in the fully understandable euphoria.
Frankly, if Eddie hadn't made such an issue of it, hardly anyone would have noticed!
I much preferred it to the normal meaningless waffle you get to be honest. This is what the lads talk like and he said exactly what he meant.

Brilliant.

I thought Tommy had one of his best games in a wigan shirt as well. For me, his distribution with ball in hand was the most pleasing thing as normally you just get a few steps here and there from him but he actually gave out some very, very good ball.
We just need a HB that can kick now.... oh wait a minute we've got one in Finch.

I thought Leuluai had a good game and his kicking game was much, much better than it has been in recent weeks and he nearly always found space. He also controlled the game well. At the game I was quite surprised that Tomkins didnt get it but after watching the game again on TV I think that Leuluai getting it was the right decision.

Thing is, it was such a complete team performance that I wouldn't argue against whoever got it, you could make a case for all of their contributions. Personally I'd have picked Sam, but I wonder if the press were a bit fed up of him winning everything and wanted someone else to be recognised as well.

My top 3 would be Sam, McIlorum & Gleeson, but Fielden & Goulding were special too, and fully deserve their England callups.

I'd have personal;ly given it to Fielden and Coley (if that were possible) I though their effort up the middle was more or less faultless. However, no issues with Lulu getting it. After a few seasons where he has struggled to direct us around the park, I thought he did just that. His passing to Tomkins on the link in the three quarters was inch perfect almost every time and a lot was done blind as to fool the defence where the ball was going. He still had his trademark runs and put that shoulder in a few times too. I'm chuffed for him.
Them on redvee thought it was the right choice too.

As per other posters, Tommy stood out for me as well, at around 60 minutes I said that he was playing well enough to win the trophy. He has played consistently well all season and a fitting finale, that aside, a host of his team mates would have run him close though.
A good team effort, well chuffed for the whole set-up from Mr Lenigan down!

I thought Deacon hasd his best game for Wigan and it was worth signing him for that match alone. Backspin on kicks etc, brilliant kicks. Wonder why he did not take over the place kicking?

For Harry Sunderland I would have gone

1) Sam Tomkins. Awesome effort. Full of energy and a threat every time he touches the ball.

2) Stuart Fielden. Long stints and dominated the Saints packs. Great yardage, NOW (what have Madge/Waney taught him) able to ride big hits instead of being poleaxed. Possibly best game for Wigan.

3) Martin Gleeson. 2 Tries. Solid as a rock and has formed a fantastic pairing with Daz Goulding. England should select both.
It would have been a close call which ever way it went.
Tommy's defence was second to none and his go forward with the jinxing runs created allsorts of problems for the Saints defense.
He linked the line well and put in some good kicks, albeit he did put a couple of balls out on the full.
For me Tommy was in with a shout of the MOM with both Sam Tomkins and Stu Fielden.

I was saying to my Dad (who's a Leeds fan but was a Wigan fan for the day) that Tommy was MOTM with about 20 minutes to go - but that Sam was doing his level best to steal it from him!

To be honest, there were 17 MOTM performances out there on Saturday. No one under-performed, and it was such a brilliant team-effort.

Tommy was so influential for me and think he'll go on to make a name for himself at hooker with Wigan. But that's for the future.

The attitude of every player was spot on. Gleeson and Fielden stood out in particular for their 'up-for-it-ness' and Madge must take a lot of the credit for that. I think Richards' comments after the match sum up the feeling throughout the club:

"I'll be five or six months out now but, at the start of the day, if I'd known that would happen and we'd still end up winning, I'd have taken that," he said. "
