Not too different to Belle View either, no cover for away fans (ditto Headingley), hand-wound scoreboard (Odsal?), no decent parking nearby (half the grounds in the league)... It's a dump, there's no doubt about that, but shouldn't we be generating our own atmosphere? It'll be fun to go back there, I enjoyed it 2 years ago.robjoenz posted:
SL's only requirements seem to be 2000 seats, 1000 under cover. Can't see the problem myself, you can fit a few thousand in there, you can't expect a part-time NL1 league to build their own JJB stadium with 35p can you.
Haven's ground is even smaller than Leighs and extremely exposed but they got the RFLs nod too.

Re: Hilton 'Park'
I was there for the playoff game I was one of the Wigan fans that had to be moved due to the "Minority" of Leigh fans hurling abuse and coins then doing the same to Andy Farrell. My friend works with a Leigh diehard and he advised her not to take her car to the Wigan/Leigh games and to advise me not to take my 8 year old daughter as they are "supposedly" arranging to smash cars and attack Wigan fans.MrsLam posted:
Please tell me that Hilton 'worse than knowsley road' shack has to be done up before allowing the royalties of wigan to enter it.
I hope they get the small set of fans that think its funny to throw things at players, sorted. If they don't they're gonna have a lot of problems with points being deducted and other sets of fans getting frustrated.
Am not saying this from a bias point of view, I used to work there and know exactly what some of them are like, I just hope the bunch of wa**ers that turned up for that challenge cup play off 2 years ago, don't make any appearances next year for the sake of the loyal fans.
Back on to the topic though, how can their ground possibly be up to super league standard? Their scoreboard is still run by hand and the stadium holds 8000 people thats without the big screen etc so it must go down a fair bit when they put that in a corner too.

Re: Hilton 'Park'
I love the fact that Leigh are back in Super League, it's one of those hilarious "derby" relationships where they hate and loathe us with a passion and we don't really think about them at all because we know we'll win at a canter however many two pences bounce off Brett's titanium jaw. It's like the "rivalry" between say Arsenal and Barnet..all a bit one way.
On the subject of Hilton Park-the Leigh ground, not the service station on the M6 (though that has better facilities)- I hear they are planning to create a "sporting village" complex perhaps incorporating Leigh RMI FC which would be great for League but I don't see how it will be ready for next season.
On a serious note, welcome back Leigh, a true RL club and great amateur nursery, who have been very unlucky despite being a consistent top club in the NFP (very unlucky under the excellent Paul Terzis)to suffer at the hands of relegated SL clubs and their parachute payments, its been a long road but good to see them back. Neil Turley was another we let go...

Re: Hilton 'Park'
That's one away game I'll be missing. I work will Leigh fans, and I'll guarantee there will be trouble. The hatred for all things Wigan is unbelievable. It's not the minority of fans that will cause trouble but the majority.
Re: Hilton 'Park'
let them cause bother! because thay will be hit in the pocket, by the rfl if any crap like thats goes on. just leave them to do what ever thay want, wow thay can smash cars, and hit people, how exiting! its there own fault there always in wigans shadow. end of the day which big name players will want to play for a tin pot side? thay will be the rubbing rags for the SL!
Re: Hilton 'Park'
The only good "Hilton Park", as Dai mentions, is the M6 services just North of Brum.
It's only for one season anyway.

Re: Hilton 'Park'
I was warned not to mentioned that I was a wigan fan when I was working there and I didn't except for the time I met Millward in which I made sure he knew I was a wiganer. *Cringe* Week in week out they were having a go at wigan and it wasn't all to be taken too lightly. I dont get offended that easily but there were a few times where I thought, there was just no need for what they were sayin.
Anyway, if we're gonna play in that dump I suppose we should get used to it..I kno what I'll be singing "s*** ground no fans, s*** ground no fans"
