There's all this stuff about him going to Union, it won't happen, to be honest I don't even think he will go to the NRL, he is gonna be another Lockers and spend his whole career at Wigan. Good kid. And as I've always said especially after his V sign, I am behind him 100%.

Yes he did Josie and he give a good account of our game too, you could see the booing in general does not bother him but under the teflon skin you get the feeling it did when he was in an england shirt and rightly so!
People like Sam, Josh, Mossop, Roby, McGilvery etc etc are the future of our game I just wish SL marketing teams realised this and exposed them to as much limelight as possible to compete with onion.

i got the same impression from the interview. And i hope you're right. Unfortunately, money talks. And when the big bucks of union, or the higher salary cap of the NRL come calling and start offering him an extra 70/80/90k a year.... I don't think many people would turn that down. Ultimately those chances allow you to play out your days and then retire. If you play out your days on SL wages. You need another job afterwards to fall back on. I would love for him to become a 10 year player, become salary cap exempt, get a testimonial and cement his place as a Wigan legend... Excellent programme, and he came across exactly as he does in real life, a really nice, modest Wigan lad who just wants to win!

But with our strict salary cap they can't earn any money if they were marketed like that. Sam and Joel would be a marketing man's dream. Impetuous younger brother, hard man older brother etc etc.
Doing this would IMO raise the profile of the sport. They would be on Gillette adverts etc.
As it is just what is the point of doing it? Players from all clubs dutifully line up for Sky's SL promotional photos but that is your lot. Talk about a missed opportunity to promote the sport.

This is where the salary cap falls down IMO it's funny no player has taken the RFL to court as its restricted practice its money earned away from the Rugby pitch.Think its time the RFL woke up to the fact that some players would in fact could earn more money off the rugby field and players like Sam and Joel would be a marketing dream.With Sam an Joel being in the spotlight from Wembley Joels try if in RU would never be off the TV.If Sam took the RU cash he would be a millionaire in no time they know how to market their game and players.
Its like us if we had a permanant job and took a part time job as a barman.Thats what our game needs to be more in the public eye our media coverage is none excistent.
Wish Jamie Peacock would retire as he said that when he finishes playing he would like to go into the admin side he would ruffle a few feathers at Red Hall like he says the people in charge are way off the mark when it comes down to players needs.
