First recollection I have of this type of celebration was Paul Wellens some years ago.
Gaz Hock has done no different to numerous other players.

the main point i was aiming at, GMR made comment about it,the phone in was on about it ( mainly Stains poor losers), apparently the 2 idiots on sky commented on it, nobody mentioned Turner or is it that he plays for an inferior team,
final thought if throwing the ball into the crowd is dangerous, then should we not ban penalties and abolish conversions, after all I am sure that the ball being booted is going to have more of an impact than it being thrown

The last couple of pages have seen a bit of common sense returning. A few posters have claimed sour grapes behind all the nonsense in the thread!bill.inger wrote:This subject has created ten pages of drivel on Redvee. It does make uninspiring reading and for the life of me, I can't think why I've waded through all that peripheral dross. Sod it, I'm going for a pint before my tea.

on the matches on Super League there were about 5 or 6 examples of the ball being thrown into the crowd in celebration but only one brought any comment from the ref, perhaps the moaning Sts player who can be seen bringing it to the attention of the ref prompted Hocks talking to

I liked his defence - "I was just celebrating sir!"

In the big scheme of things it wasn't really that much, but Bentham was right to caution him - at a football match it would have been likely to cause a riot. Probably not at a rugby league Derby match, but when passions run hot, it doesn't take much to inflame things.
I was much more concerned when I saw that tool Richie Myler flipping the 'V' to Wigan fans last season, with absolutely no come back.

Maybe I am wrong but just been watching Super League Full Time and I am sure Richard Owen for Cas throws the ball into the crowd after his first try, it looked far more aggressive than GH, but no one will give a damn about that one!

According to Bilko, Gaz has had a caution for it. Far as I am aware, no other try scorer has received one for the same action!

I remember a few years ago at the H J stadium when Nathan Wood was playing for the Wire, and after he scored a try at the Wigan fans end, he jumped into the crowd, ran down the exit steps, along the concourse. up the next set of steps and back on the pitch, and nothing was ever mentioned about that inciting trouble. Seems as though anything Wigan do at the moment is completely out of order and a banable offence especially if your name is Gareth Hock.

It wasn't in the Wigan away end. It was in the opposite seated end behind the sticks of the home support.outback wiganer wrote:I remember a few years ago at the H J stadium when Nathan Wood was playing for the Wire, and after he scored a try at the Wigan fans end, he jumped into the crowd, ran down the exit steps, along the concourse. up the next set of steps and back on the pitch, and nothing was ever mentioned about that inciting trouble. Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
