DaveO behave! He is RL through and through and more importantly Wigan through and through, he is going nowhere! Hanley, how good was he? Loving watching Gaz play at the moment though, he just causes defences chaos and creates so much space for others, long may it continue, 5 years anyway DaveO!

Hmm ? His Crash n Bash style though not suited for ALL opponents does have the advantage of drawing extra defenders, which is what sometimes creates gaps.
I have to wonder how he would fare against Crash n Bash specialists like NZ Warriors or Manly for example :conf:

IMO given his performances so far this year Hocky has to be in the running for MoS.

To come back from 2 years out of the sport and to perform at his present standard has to be congratulated.

He's the first to admit that what he did was wrong, he took the ban that went with it but his attitude in grabbing his second chance with both hands should be applauded. He's not asked for favours, just got his head down and worked hard now he's reaping the benefits.

What's really pleased me is that Gaz has kerbed that hot head which used to get him in trouble with officials and cost us field position. He now seems to be channeling his aggression into the right places.

As Bourbon Rat has alluded it is no coincidence that Goulding / Charnley and Sam are scoring so many tries down the right hand side. Hocky causes so many problems down the left mainly with Finchy that if the opposition stop him, a big spread back to the right invariably finds a try scoring opportunity.

Dave O I lost count of the number of people, you may well have been one too who said the loss of Hoff was a disaster. WELL NO it wasn't. Hoff is an excellent player but he was too similar to what we had in HHansen. Hock and Hansen offer a huge contrast. Hock the attacker is up there with the best in the world. Interestingly Hoffy was muted for Origin but pundits said his attack was not as good as other second rowers even with one or two injured.

AtoB if people publish nonsensical views they deserve to be reminded. Moderators stood by what in the defence of freedom of speech lol whilst a player was called scum / the lowest of the low. If you ignore such stupidity then how do such people learn?

Being forward orientated, watching Gelling last night, I was wondering if Wane Was working on a three prop system using Hock as prop and Gelling covering his spot.

Some idiots like Medlocke/Baked Bean Boogie cried foul when Wigan signed him again. Some of you said Hoffman was better. Hoff was an excellent player but Hock is far better and important IMO. I aint wrong much either unlike some COUGH COUGH medlocke
To say Hock is far better is a big exaggeration CPW. Hoffman is not as naturally talented as Hock but he is still the smarter player. Hock has one way to play the game, 100% full on. It works most of the time but occasionally you need someone with a brain to know when that apporach isn't required. Hoffman had that particular strength. Hock doesn't. If Hock learned that skill he'd be the complete player.
IMO its Hock playing 'off the cuff' as such that makes him the player he is.
Nobody knew what Ellery Hanley was going to do next, and that probably included Ellery himself, but hey what a player.
Gaz Hock is an excellent player in his own right too Dave.

I didn't say it was a disaster. Would I have liked him to have done another year? Yes why wouldn't anyone want a quality player like him here? I knew he was leaving so there was no use worrying about it.

The player we miss in the back row (not at centre) is Joel IMO. I think Joel was close to Hock in attack and ran great lines and doesn't (or rather didn't) have Hock's tendency to do daft things.

Since both Hoffman and Joel are now gone we need Hock. But had they stayed it would not have been the end of the world if Hock had never played for us again.

He is a very good player in his own right but its good that you mention Ellery because he was the complete player. He certainly did play off the cuff but when he did you never thought it was inappropriate to be trying whatever he came up with. That can't be said of Hock.

I'm not to sure about this. As talented as Joel was, he gave up a good deal of penalties. Giving up a penalty can loose you 20-30 meters, just as damaging as a poor offload without any potential benefit.

I don't think Joel was as destructive runner either and did not attract as many defensive players, something our backs are taking advantage of as has already been said. If we didn't take him someone else would have and we would have had the problem of defending him!

That being said I would have rather have had both.

As much as I rated Joel, I would have Gaz Hock in the 2nd row before him any day of the week.
