Re: whelan and the rise of...
Oh, come on. Have any of you muppets ever been to a Latics match!
I have to say that as a season ticket holder for many seasons, I'm disappointed how our supporters are so embittered and that when we lose, all our fans can do is attack other clubs and even sports.
I've been to several Latics games this season and I feel that the standard of football being played at the JJB is better than that at some of the premier league clubs I've seen this year.
As for coming straight back down if they go up, I don't think so. For one, neither of the other 2 clubs that go up with them have any cash to spend, so they'll be 2 of the sides to come back down.
What you must all realise is that the rugby team are no longer the sole topic of sporting discussion in the town. If anything, football is a much more popular sport and as such, many would argue that the Latics are the bigger topic of discussion.
I for one will definately be getting a season ticket for the premier league of Latics go up. Depending on prices, I may even have to relinquish my warriors season ticket but after all, you must go with the tides of change.

Reading the postings on here i am of the impression that a few of them are feared. What if latics do get promoted it should not make any difference to us.but we should realise that they are GROWING whilst we seem to be in decline. If you disagree compare gates.
I have been to many games when the gates announced were nowere near true[Halifax was the best example]
you may ask why boost gates, blame the salary cap what we can pay depends on[figures]what we receive
on paper

i,m a football fan as well as an R.L. fan and imo R.L. is more exciting to watch. you do still get the odd classic like the last man u. /arsenal game but football has lost some of it,s excitment with the use of the type of balls they use nowdays. i don,t see why you can,t enjoy each for what they are without having to be a critic of the other. ps.i have saw the latics both home and away............it was in the seventies mind you

Re: whelan and the rise of...
Reading some of the comments from RL types here I wonder if they live in the same town as most Wigan fans do.
Saturday saw a 17000+ gate with Leeds fans accounting for 5500 of that. In football, unlike in RL, there is no fiddling with the crowd figures in order to keep the salary cap high.
Get real chaps...
PS Bit odd this board, I'm not registered and my reply appears as coming from rugbyh8ter...

Seems also that I am rugbyh8ter aswell, but none the less lets have something the town can be equally proud of. I can see that if the tics get to the prem there will be regular crowds of around 17-20000 and the extra money that is going to Mr Whelan can also go to help the rugby team. What Im saying is there is a definate change taking place within the town regarding football. Time was when everyone had a beautiful cherry and white replica kit on around town on saturday afternoon. Now there seems to be just loads of latics tops. My kids are well into rugby but theyre forever complaining that all their mates would prefer to go and watch the other lot.
