Re: rugby league live 2
So… the aforementioned review.
I've been an avid gamer for years and the only thing stopping me now is my age. I'm slowly growing out of video games but it didn't stop me really looking forward to RLL2 coming out.
I got it last night and have played about 10 matches since. I have played either as Wigan or Melbourne (just for a laugh) and have always played the worst opposition I could pick while I found my feet. I'm fairly comfortable with the controls now and can now reasonably give an assessment of the game. It's difficult to know what to compare this to as the only vaguely similar games are either FIFA or Johah Lomu's Rugby both of which I picked up and could play reasonably well within about ten minutes.
Sadly RLL2 is miles away from the game it should be.
The good: Well the graphics are fairly good and the character movement gives the feel of a RL match. The teams and stadiums are accurate and on the whole it comes across as RL. Unfortunately, the good stuff stops pretty much there.
The bad: Where do I start?! What is obvious is that this game is going to sell to a target audience and as such is not going to get the development and beta testing of a game like FIFA. It's been developed by a small developer. And it shows. Massively. The gameplay is very flawed to the point where I've turned it off a few times out of sheer frustration.
The basic mechanics are there but you never really feel in control of what's going on in attack and in defence you might as well put the controller down and let the computer AI do the tackling as they always do a better job. What happens if you try and make the player you control make a tackle is that they immediately move out of position and while you're trying to get the position back, the attack will run into the gap you've left.
But the most annoying, stupid and downright frustrating aspect is that EVERY time you try to be a bit creative in the 3/4, you'll throw a pass that is always intercepted.
I believe that a game like this should encourage the player to play. And that you should be able to beat the lesser teams comfortably and be challenged by the tougher ones. Well I'm a pretty competent gamer and haven't won a match yet, even as Melbourne against the Scorpions!!!
I really wanted to love this game and even it was flawed, be able to pick it up and have a bit of fun. Well I can't, it's clumsy, complicated and lacks any fluidity. The gulf between this and FIFA is massive and despite the two games being from different sports, there should be an intuition when you play, that is there in abundance in FIFA and desperately lacking in RLL2.
It's such a shame. My only hope is that an online software update my sort out the insanity that is the interception pantomime at least, but I doubt it.
My advice would be that if you want a team sports game to play on a PS3 or 360, then pick up a copy of FIFA or Pro Evo. They are properly developed games with few flaws. RLL2 is riddled with them and the only real plus is that it's Rugby League. It being a Rugby League game alone does not make it acceptable, which it isn't IMO.
I will persevere but imagine that the frustration will eventually get the better of me and it'll be sold on eBay. Such a shame.

come on kiwiseddon what did you expect? its never going be like fifa as its not ea sports and ea will never make a rugby league game again. its still the best rugby league game yet and its a success. rll1 was ps2 2 type but rll2 is ps3 type and will get better as they make them. next year they will bring a world cup game out as you will have noticed as theres only 3 international teams on rll2.
i agree on it being frustrated on interceptions but like me and others you will have just put up with it and not do many long passes.
it does take a while get used to it and its simple.. play like you would if your actually on the pitch playing. i was wigan and got beat by gateshead but i started on rookie level instead of amateur. now id probs put 40 up against them on same level.

I didn't realise you could change the difficulty settings!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Eccy, I'm a Muppet.
I think you're right, it's never gonna be FIFA, I just wish it was!
An easier difficulty setting to get started will be a help.

In light of my previous ramblings, the game in career mode set on 'amateur' difficulty is a lot more playable. If anything it's a bit too easy now but at least it's enjoyable. I still stand by my review but at the very least I've not wasted £45 on a complete turkey.eccywarrior wrote:come on kiwiseddon what did you expect? its never going be like fifa as its not ea sports and ea will never make a rugby league game again. its still the best rugby league game yet and its a success. rll1 was ps2 2 type but rll2 is ps3 type and will get better as they make them. next year they will bring a world cup game out as you will have noticed as theres only 3 international teams on rll2.

its harder to make a rugby league than a football game in terms of gameplay

Anyone know whether there are still any of these for X-Box in Game near the Wigan area? My son just decided he wants it for Christmas and not got time to order it online. Went on Game web-site but it is showing out of stock.
Failing that - anyone who gave it duff reviews - do you fancy flogging it on to me if your copy is still in an ok state?
Thanks & Happy Christmas!!!!!

If you have a relative living in Bangor In North Wales i know they had 1 in stock yesterday. Failing that try Zaavi.com they have then in stock only issue from them is you would not get it in time i think.KaylaRobbo wrote:Anyone know whether there are still any of these for X-Box in Game near the Wigan area?
