not the end of the world but a lot of the younger players will know they need to put their bodies on the line in defence if they want to make it to SL. I have had my doubts about a couple they like being involved at the glory end but not where the hard work gets done.
Why was Williams not playing anyone heard if he is injured? I do rate him a lot.

Maybe a good wakeup call to the seniors not to be complacent.

Burgess isn't a particularly good defender so I can't understand why he was played at centre and not on the wing, while Gelling didn't look comfortable defending in the back row either.

But by far the most bizarre choice was playing Carberry at 6. No one in their right mind would think that he'd make a good stand off. I don't know why Powell or Williams didn't play but if they were unavailable fair enough, but Doran can play in the halves and was on the bench. Connor Farrell is skilful enough to play in the halves and has played there before, as has Logan Tomkins.

Instead they stuck Carberry there, he looked like a fish out of water and Ryan Hampshire was left to do absolutely everything when the team was attacking, which meant the team wasn't the least bit threatening in attack until Carberry went off.

Connor Farrell seemed to create some problems when he came on towards the end but he didn't seem to get much game time.
Baffled by the Carberry selection at 6, his best position by far is Hooker where he should have played and as you say Tomkins could have played at 6.

Farrell was on at the start of and played the whole of the 2nd half and looked a lot happier/ more comfortable when he moved to loose. I think it was Matt Crow who came on for the last 10 mins and caused the problems, especially when he broke through the middle. Surprised to see him in the squad as he barely got a lookin last season after looking so promising at centre/2nd row in the 2/3 seasons previous.
Farrell didn't start, it was Lloyd and Gelling in the second row with Burke at loose forward. As has been stated the decision to start Carberry at stand off was strange but I'm hearing that Williams will be out for another couple of weeks with a broken hand, Powell maybe the same and Blake Green isn't sure of making the HKR game.

Friendlies are largely irrelevant. So our youngsters being asked to man up by mamoth proportion is in some respects a good test. Hence, Burke showed his considerable quality and potential.

I though Burke was Wigans best player, he didn't progress quite as well as I had hoped last year, but did well yesterday. Manfreddi also had a decent game.

That was the best Burke has played for a while and you could clearly see by the look on his face how unhappy he was with the performance of some/most of the others, he expected them to put in as much effort as he did and rightly so.

I would also have like to have seen young Crowe get more time on the pitch as from what he showed in those last 10 mins he would have caused Leigh problems with his pace in attack and reinforced our defence which was woeful at times
