Our good friend Mally Darwin is a St Helens fan, not a Wigan fan, so yes, it was Neil Holding I was thinking of - thank you for reminding me of his name. Not sure if the word "entertainer" really applies to Holding, but then there's one or two others linked with that club who could have problems with the Trades Descriptions Act, such as Johnny Vegas considering himself a comedian...
