Totally agree with you there Adam

It was Madge who got the junior teams playing the exact same systems and tactics as the first team presumably because he thought this was a good thing in itself and also I assume because that meant junior players slotted into the first team more easily. If that meant a better chance of success on-field and so an enhanced reputation for the coach why would we care?
I haven't had chance to watch the young'uns for quite a few years. Hasn't having the junior players playing to the same systems always been a Wigan thing? Had it slipped under previous coaches so much that Madge had to re-instate it. I remember watching Murdoch and Long playing for the juniors and looking the same as Edwards and Gregory putting on the same moves

It slipped SP. They all very much did their own thing until Madge reinstated the philosophy.

Thanks CP, well that would have been a factor in explaining
why we have mainly been a there or there abouts side since the inception of Super League and have not been a dominating team.

Thank God.
IMO wane deserves a new contract, not just an option taken up.
Why? I have said for a while I thought IL would take the option up. Wane has earned it by getting us to Wembley but IL is no mug and realises we have had an easy draw this year. IL will want to wait and see (as he did with Noble) if Wane deserves a longer term deal than just another year.
IL should count himself lucky that hes got a coach who's willing to promote youth as much as he is doing because many others would want to bring in players and ultimately put IL out of pocket.
Any coach who doesn't put pressure on the chairman to spend to target a top player from outside the club isn't wanted here!
In any case under Wane we have signed Taylor, Smith, Green, Lauaki, Flower, Dudson the new Kiwi forward for next season whose name escapes me and probably other who I have missed out.
Why? because I think it shows solidarity between a clubs chairman and head coach, a vision they both agree on and ultimately they are both heading in the right direction.
IMO any new players are more likely to sign for a club who's manager is tied down on a contract than one that might be gone in 12 months (not many people sign on a one year deal)
Wane is only planning long term because of the benefit to the club he loves, other coaches wouldn't, not on this contract. They would want a short term fix. IMO I think IL takes liberties with wanes loyalty and love for wigan.
We have several players who already signed longer term deals than Wane (or Madge for that matter when he was here) so I don't think the length of a coach's contract is relevant. I doubt Faz with his five year deal signed it on the 100% nailed on expectation that Wane would be his coach for all that time or our new NZ player was drawn here by the length of Wane's contract since he doesn't even know how long that will be.
I also don't think IL would sign any coach who didn't share his vision for the clubs future despite only signing them for two or three years. That is why I mentioned Madge. He was only here two years but didn't just confine himself to first team success.
I think Wigan are working to a system a bit like the boot room philosophy Liverpool used to have. That is coaches at various levels must slot into how things are done (see the clubs comments on Long's departure) and so I don't think the coach, whoever it is, is the main driver behind any vision at Wigan. I think it is IL.
As to showing solidarity I think you will only get that
after a coach has proved to IL he is worth it. IL won't tie the club to coach for several years unless he's convinced it's the right thing to do IMO.
CPW could be wrong and we may find Wane has a new three year deal or whatever but if so I think it will be because IL thinks he's the right man for the job not to show solidarity.
If it's a one year deal then IMO he's being as cautious with Wane as he was with Noble while at the same time not wanting to be seem churlish in not giving a coach who has had some (but not enough)success the boot if you see what I mean.
Be interesting to see how IL spins a one year deal to the press if we win the CC!

Obviously not confirmed but my source is right 99% of the time. It may be the good news (Wane) / Bad news (Sam) ploy that IL likes to utilise. I would prefer the good news to be A quality signing AND Wane.

Quite. A one year extension to Wane's contract doesn't come close to compensating for the loss of Sam. You'd need Billy Slater for that. And I'd still prefer Sam to stay!
