No way would we put anyone on our payroll unless he ticked the boxes. Besides, he is giving us the cover we would have had from Sam's 3rd year whilst we bring our young guns in so he's unlikely to play every game. Could be a good signing in that respect!
I know what your saying kittwazzer but have we a recognized full back? Because the way I have been reading things it seems FB is causing quite a few headaches.Yes Matty Bowen is potentially a good option if all is medically well with him.But who is our recognized full back?and that for me is a big issue.Unfortunately for me I am unable to see the academy boys play and rely on others who are able to identify future potential fb.Young L.Tierney from what I have seen does not cut the mustard for me.Hampshire who knows? :D
Joe Burgess is a very good fullback :)

Clubb was on the GB / England radar once was he not as a centre? Not sure we need him though. Thornley, Gelling, Goulding and possibly Chris Taylor/Gildart.

He played centre against PNG in 2010, scored 4 tries as well. No way he's actually a centre though.

The only objection I have with Powell is he is holding back the likes of Tom Spencer who is too old for the U19's & has to go on loan himself to get game time. Didn't he help Leigh win a competition just last month?

He should be getting game time here, maybe not every week but more first team games IMO

What's that got to do with this thread Josie?

Isn't this situation, and the loss of outstanding U19's like Ryan King and young Carberry pointing to a need for Wigan to resurrect the old Wigan Highfield team into the Conference leagues. We've got the players to more than fill a team and a ground at Orrell as good or better than most Conference grounds. We wouldn't be sending out lads to Leigh or South Wales for a game, we could have Super League teams sending their top youngsters to Wigan. The Gelling situation wouldn't exist and others needing match fitness after injury could get game time as opposed to training time. It's really just a way to bring back the old Alliance or Reserve team as it was up to two or three seasons back
The only down side I can see is if both teams are drawn together in a cup competition (plus the playing surface would need improving to withstand the extra training and games).
Most of the staff needed are already in place, the U19's have shown that the support is there, but if it all boils down to finance then it would be a non-starter.
Just an idea for thought while we've got a week off, can I throw it open or is the idea not worth a carrot?

The playing surface is superb.

Are you sure that Tom will be here next year? I posted some time ago that he had received an offer from Bradford.
