Who will we miss/ remember more, Richards or Tomkins?
Re: Who will we miss/ remember more, Richards or Tomkins?
Pat without a doubt.
Sam is over rated IMO. Leeds, Saints and Wire know how to shut him down and he isn't that good at defending.
We will cope without Sam but Pat will leave a big gap.

Suppose Sam had a poor game last night then.BriH wrote:Pat without a doubt.

Just a note; Sam T has been at Wigan RLFC for a decade+, since the age of 11

Surely both will be remembered equally but each for their own unique talent. Kicking skills will bring back memories of Pat's amazing drop goal that even he surprised himself with (for example) and a kid will suddenly turn up about 8 stone wet through with a side step like a dancer and people will talk about one of Sam's many pitch long break-through tries.
This is how we remember all the other past players. Some are remembered more than others but they are all remembered especially if they had unique skills.
Its sad to hear that Sam may be thought less of because he chose to take on a new challenge even if it is to our detriment. I'll bet there aren't many of us that haven't decided to leave the job they were currently in because of a new challenge like testing yourself to see if you can surpass your expectations, a change of location or a pay rise. I know I have been in that situation. I think you have to ask yourself (and be completely honest) would I do it or if I had kids who that opportunity would I want them to try to achieve it?
I personally will miss both of them the same but for different reasons. It has been so good that Wigan have been honoured to enjoy them for a part of their career and I wish them both all the best for their futures.
Anyway - enough of that for now - all this is stopping my Google search on how to sabotage the wiring on the plane engines to stop the plane from setting off?!?!?

Does not count. It's a players 1st team career that counts.cpwigan wrote:Just a note; Sam T has been at Wigan RLFC for a decade+, since the age of 11

Always been used as a wide receiver of the ball and infrequently used as a dummy runner so possibly easier to mark out of the game. A great example of his dummy running was for the pass to Gells in the Giants game that cut sam out and put josh in at the corner.BriH wrote:Pat without a doubt.

Has this ploy been used enough, I don't think so as there would be alot more uncertainty in the defending team if we had.

I am with God on this.Badly let down with loyalty.would Still be a young man if he had seen out his contract. And any one who thinks he will come back to RL in England is dreaming.Straight to London to play union is sam that you can be sure off. After that Thanks for the memories and good luck to them both but pat is special in my eyes true legend.God wrote:Richards has been written in Wigan folk law in the same breath as Hanley, Chris Rad, Andy Farrell et all.
Richards is a Wigan legend.
Tomkins could have been, a fantastic player.....integrity and loyalty has let the lad down quite badly. He will be thought of an essential part of a decent Wigan team. No doubting his talent.
But for me Richards is a legend and that term for me is over used.

I have never heard of a players longevity at a club be discussed with reference to his time as a junior with the club. Their time with a club is always recorded in terms of their time in the first team.cpwigan wrote:Who says Dave?DaveO wrote:Does not count. Does it make it correct though? It probably reflects the ignorance of the media and/or avoiding having to award testimonials from the RFL / Clubs POV. There is no escaping the fact that Sam has been at Wigan RLFC since he was 11 which means he has been at the club for 12/13 years.DaveO wrote:I have never heard of a players longevity at a club be discussed with reference to his time as a junior with the club. I would say no Dave
A common theme about successful British teams is a group of players joining the club as juniors and coming through together in the first team. Man Utd, Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors. It sometimes produces a unique bond within the team.
