Re: Ian Lenagan and The Salary Cap
I've been present when I've heard IL say he's voted for increase in the cap in line with inflation and been voted down.
It wouldn't matter if he said he was against it the cap won't be abolished. It does seem however that he seems to squeeze more than most out of the cap.
We have had endless injuries and won games that the team was never expected to win. The squad has strength in depth that can't be found at most if not all other SL clubs.
I am against the salary cap as I don't believe in it and it has failed totally.
It hasn't stopped clubs going broke although those same clubs haven't broken the SC.
It hasn't opened the League to ensure more than the four clubs have won the GF. 16 GF's = 4 winning clubs.
I'd say abolish the cap but have to admit IL plays the SC like the fiddle it is!

IL doesn't play it as well as Warringtons owner does ????
Re: Ian Lenagan and The Salary Cap
No sport / club will ever publish personal contractual details etc for obvious reasons. However, in our sport with a salary cap, I see no reason why the RFL should not have a 'live' table listing how much in total or % wise each club currently spends of the alloted salary cap.

Sometimes I wonder, if many of the comments swiping at anything to do with the club are actually from Warriors supporters.

One thing I will say WW.Is that nobody can knock your loyalty.I just believe that all in the garden is far from rosy. and see things through different Glasses. Can't see where that is swiping at the club.Just differing in opinion.Whelley Warrior wrote:Sometimes I wonder, if many of the comments swiping at anything to do with the club are actually from Warriors supporters.

This is sensible discussion about IL's attitude to the salary cap and the salary cap itself.Whelley Warrior wrote:Sometimes I wonder, if many of the comments swiping at anything to do with the club are actually from Warriors supporters.
So it isn't "swiping at anything to do with the club" but if you are so sensitive such that you think it is, why read the stuff and stress about? It clearly annoys you so why bother?
Such discussions would also be better minus comments such as yours above which add absolutely nothing to the discussion itself and are just taking a swipe at the people posting in the thread.

Typical response from a person who swallows the Company Bible whether it be work or play!Whelley Warrior wrote:Sometimes in the late sixties!! wonder, if many of the comments swiping at anything to do with the club are actually from Warriors supporters.
Blind Faith were a great band also in the late sixties.

Re: Ian Lenagan and The Salary Cap
Do we need to get personal?
There are a range of perfectly defensible positions, but we are all ultimately Wigan fans. My perspective on some things differs massively from DaveO's, but I know he loves our great club and only wants what's best for it. I am sure all the other posters hold a similar passion.
I happen to think that the good outweighs the bad to a huge degree just now, and am enjoying the ride. That makes me err on the side of optimisim and giving the club a break. But, who's to say whether today's success isn't the result of actions taken a long time ago or luck, and that it could all come crashing down. At least we have many knowledgable and thoughtful fans prepared to keep the club on its toes.
To end where I began, I would think it must be possible to debate without dismissing the opposite view or worse still the poster out of hand.
We're all in it together.

Re: Ian Lenagan and The Salary Cap
Since his arrival IL has won the LLS twice, Grand Final twice and the Challenge Cup twice.
That is a record better than any other club chairman in that period and is excellent in that it's a spread of all three trophies. He's owned the club for six complete seasons and won a trophy for each of those years.
Wire so far can't win the League and Leeds so far haven't won the C Cup since 1999.
Ian Lenegan works the Salary Cap like the fiddle it is and does it better than any of his counterparts.
