I agree he is cheap and a decent cover. Whilst he is no Taylor he is doing a decent job.
Whatever people think of a him taking the place of a younger prop in the squad. He is actually doing that a big favour and will lead to that youngster having a longer career than if he played the same anount of games as James has done this season. He is far better than Powell as a prop and is doing 2 jobs.
Kafusi may well be better buit which prop do we lose to fit him in on the cap. Dudson, Flower, Crosby etc. Most props will cost a lot more than James on the cap a factor that so many do not understand. Given the rolling war on the Sarginson thread when Goulding left.

My understanding of the cap is quite sound thanks, and looking at our squad for next year I cannot believe we are anywhere near the top end of it. People keep churning out this "decent cover" argument as if we have the best pack in the league. We are massively short in the front row.
This experience argument doesn't sit well with me either, there are many of our young lads who have already been in far bigger games than James and won them, what exactly is that experience he is bringing? Being old doesn't make you automatically good to learn from. Gareth Ellis has experience, Adrian Morley has experience - players who've played at the very top.
I assume he will be cheap but who knows without knowing his wage how do you know how much of the cap he will take?.

Flower, Taylor, Clubb, Dudson. I don't see that as massively short. Clubb is slowly becoming immense.

Flower - played v well last year but hasn't recreated that form this year IMO
Taylor - rumours about him leaving won't go away by far our best prop
Club - work in progress but ok
Dudson - terrible player penalty machine and little to no effect going forward
Honestly look at our front row other than Taylor can you hand on heart say any of those players would get a game at stains wire or Leeds?

For every Ellis who has missed loads of games for Hull last season and a few this season with injury and Morley there are players who are put in too early and their careers are over too quick. Morley and Ellis Did not play prop in their early career. Not sure if Ellis ever did.
Prescott for one and looking at Mossop could be the next one he seems to get an injury every season that keepe him out.

You missed my point
Irrelevant of their playing form or injury status what I'm saying is I don't buy this argument that James is good to have around because of his "experience" to me he has none he has never been at the top level so I don't see what our youngsters who already have more experience at that level can learn from him

I never mentioned his experience.
If a coach is determined by his playing days then Sean Long should be awsome at it. Ohh wait a sec.

Exactly gimble that's my point
So
1) he isn't any better player than the kids we have
2) he doesn't bring experience
So what is the point of giving him any contract regardless of his wage we may as well blood in a few youngsters he offer little quality
If I offered you a poo for 2p regardless of how little 2p is it's 2p more than you would wanna pay for poo

Blocking the likes of Sutton and Greenwood.
How is it going to block any younger prop when it is obvious that with his age, he will only be used in a emergency like he has been this season as a result of injuries to props, and in the case of Greenwood, on loan to London Bronco's.
From what I have seen of him, he is a very fit person and hardly surprising seeing that has been in the Royal Marines.
