I don't think Wane is bemused, or cares. He just wants to be seen to be sticking up for his players in public. There is always a time lag issue about these awards - if Matty steers us around on Friday and over the line a week on Saturday, then his case would be very strong.
Fwiw, I think no one has touched the same heights as Lockers when on form this season, but he hasn't played enough. If the award went to the best player, it would be between Lockers and Walsh for mine.
