Its not hypocrisy its seeing each game as it's played and rating a player in that game. For me Gelling did play well towards the end of the season but that was all, he was still not a great. I still think he struggles to pass in short space and also catching a pass under pressure ..... Never Wigan's No. 3 for me.

what's the saying .... Even the sun shines on a dogs ass some days
You are indeed correct to say that supporters can give a opinion on a player in each game, but it is wrong to blame or call the same player on all games, especially when they have a agenda not to like the player from the moment he was signed.

Am i on the correct forum someone talks sense and calls it as it is on here. I am in total shock WW your correct once a player is signed there is a small number of people that only sees the bad game and forgets the good one.

I see the good and the bad and sometimes comment on both, some people may see the lack of skill in a player way before others notice. This may not mean they have an "agenda" towards that player only that they can see a young lad who struggles with the basic skill set a RL player needs in a fast paced game of SL

Pancaking with ball in hand IMO is his biggest problem and this comes down to no confidence in his own ability.

One swallow doesn't make a summer and a good back end of a season still doesn't make Gelling a good centre !

Pancaking. Must be a technical term I'm not familiar with.

Makes them a legend even before they have played a game for the first team. Also give them a lifetime of not getting any blame.

Not always, with local born players of teams in the seventies being in abundance!

Sorry Mike my "Forum police" spell checker was not active ....

must try harder x 1000 lines for me later i guess

I think a few others may be too involved with getting one over certain posters and vice versa may i add, that the same old rubbish is recycled in order to get a point across.

back on topic:

Just because a person comes through the academy or born in Wigan does not give them them a halo for life and i would say a lot of people would have that opinion, keep your tarring brush in its pot please.

Gelling is not a good enough centre IMO and that's the whole point is it not ? He has never been good enough and i doubt he ever will be. I like the lad, i live around the corner from him, always chirpy and full of smiles ... but that does not win awards in RL

Gelling is a player like Hock used to be who comes up with those 50/50 plays, the ones that when they come off look genius and when they dont it looks stupid and horrific.

I really like gelling, i always have, he's a character and there arent many left in the game, i think he decision making is poor but you have to ask yourself what is he being coached to do?

he makes a lot of mistakes trying high risk plays so its either;

1) he is making those plays himself, in which case he should be dropped when he consistently goes against the coaches wishes

2) he is being coached to do that, in which case we shouldnt get on his back.

One things for sure he is hard to tackle, and he always gives 100% effort, i think is every match you would struggle to find someone who gives more for the team than gelling.

I suppose it depends whether you favour a attacking centre like gelling or moon, or you favour defensive centres like whelam or yeaman.

What wigan are lacking is a few "been there done that" players, and i dont mean players like Jordan James who has simply been in the game for a long time, i mean players who have played at the very highest level, like Finch, Barrett etc
