A chance for us all to improve the club
Re: A chance for us all to improve the club
The club could do Facebook competions to give away tickets and occasionally give away a box for a game etc.
I would like to see the club interact more with fans in regards to player selection i.e run a poll on Facebook to gauge fans opinion on future signings so ....
What do Wigan need more:-
A) prop
B) half back
C) full back
D) centre.
It wouldn't bother me if we stepped up a capable you fester as well as signing someone.
A better club experience would make a better experience at the ground.

Unban the use of banners in the south stand and maybe the club could put a few small flags at the back to get things started.
One of the problems i got told about is the lads that try to get singing/chanting started say they allways get funny looks and surrounded with stewards , the briganties before the complete idiots latched on to them were great for the club.
Back when i was watching wigan in my teens there was hundreds of us at the back of the popular stand and out sung every visiting teams supporters most games .
As well i have noticed there are not as many young uns watching wigan like there used to be a lot of that is because of the bitter blue round ball team .
Another idea is hire a drummer (allthough they do my nut in ) that could get it going again .

Re: A chance for us all to improve the club
I did say at the fans meeting that I felt the players needed to interact with the fans more and goad us into shouting. I remember (back when we were winning) Matty Smith running back to our side and making hand signals to the crowd to show that the shouting needed to go louder and we raised the roof (think it was at Old Trafford - not last year obviously!)
Since then (and our change in fortunes) I think the club needs to spend money to lift the crowd. The players look as low as we sound so the t-shirt gun needs to come out (with lots more t-shirts), we need our mascot to be more out there and the Canadian guy who the club hired last season who went round all the stands needs to come back!
I'd like to see more interactive entertainment at half-time too. Rugby songs, sing off's between the opposing fans. Mascots competing blah-de-blah. Even when we are having a good first off we seem to deflate at half-time.
Yes - it's fickle - but I think they are going to have to buy the atmosphere (for now)! Would be better with a surprise exciting signing but a lot cheaper...

Re: A chance for us all to improve the club
I've nothing against our current MC Stuart, but, he couldn't whip up any kind of excitement as he sounds too boring.
There should be something going on all the time & he should be encouraging fans to get involved instead instead of long pregnant pauses with a monotonous voice, sorry.
Like Kayla says the music needs to get the fans going too there is nothing exciting going on to encourage fans to come to a game early for the pre game entertainment.
Also, when the artists are on performing, they always face the West stand so that doesn't include the other three stands. Which in itself alienates fans IMO
The platform they perform on should be in the centre of the pitch, not right in front of the tunnel.
What happened to Gordon's golden suit for the Golden Gamble? Even that brought some excitement when he used to get the crowd involved with the draw. Again, that is so boring.

Re: A chance for us all to improve the club
The stadium needs to invest in its own permanent big screen, not the crappy one sky bring!
It needs to be bigger, higher up & in HD. They could then perhaps show videos of the artists of the songs being played.
Or put the words up to rugby songs to get the crowd involved in so they know the songs.

Re: A chance for us all to improve the club
I'd love to see a past player interviewed on the pitch at half time.
The size of the stadium together with high roofs and huge empty corners does create an atmosphere vacuum. 12000 at the DW is half empty/full, 12000 at many other RL grounds is 3/4 capacity.
New stadiums built now take into consideration acoustics, I don't know if the JJB stadium considered that. The away end should be built like a sponge to noise and the home sides/end should project it.

No2 is a very good point. I was thinking the other day about which players excite me in SL and unfortunately very few sprung to mind.DaveO wrote:1. Fill the stadium.
And to do that you will have to make tickets a lot cheaper unless the marketing department posses a genius no one knows about. And not at the expense of season ticket holders so that means cheap tickets all around.
The Big ones seem to work but I think they do because we get a lot of opposition fans in the DW and we Wigan fans react to them.
2. Sign a very good player not from Wigan.
I reckon the club needs to pay what it needs to pay to get very good overseas signing. Will put bums on seats (better atmosphere should result..). Wigan has a great tradition of quality imports from anywhere as much as it does a great youth set up.
No 2 will improve the team and sorry Mike but the best way to improve the atmosphere really is to improve matters on the pitch. The crowd is more nervous than the players and in my view the side is crying out for in, an ideal world, Trent Barrett MkII to walk in and take the team by the scruff of the neck.
A player of that quality is beyond us financially but we need a smart signing like Green in that case.
If those two are not options then it really is sack Wane as we need a new coach to get the team we have playing better. Do that and the atmosphere will improve.

Re: A chance for us all to improve the club
I'd setup fan groups that have allocated sections with special privileges. They could have people who lead chants and get the section singing and chanting. Their privileges could be stuff like having banners in that section, selling their own tickets to the section, maybe having a tented area outside the ground to congregate before the match, making a mass entry through the safety gates with flags etc.
Basically we need groups of "special" more enthusiastic fans that go out of their way to create an atmosphere. We almost had that a few years ago with the Ultras, but they got carried away with the drinking and fighty stuff. You have to enable them by giving them special privileges.
