I hadn't realised the Championship cap had been increased by that much. I guess there is bascially no cap in the Championship right now with the limit at that level.

I prefer the new format over straight promotion and relegation as its better for a team to find out over 7 games if they can hack it at the top level than struggle through an entire season. That said, there is an anomaly as the 4 SL teams can coast into the comp as Wakefield have done, keeping them comparitively fresh. The Top 4 Championship teams have to work their rocks off to get there so its an uneven playing field from the off.

I also think the rules for bringing new players in needs to be looked at for next year

If leigh had won yesterday they would have had a good shot at finishing 4th. I bet they would be fuming about having to play a 4th v 5th match to get promoted. Now though, their favourite for the 5th spot unless Bradford can shock someone. So they are probably well in favour of that match.

I think the format does give the CHampionship teams a chance to see the level and have three or four cracks at it - which should be good at improving their competitiveness next season. however, its looking like it will all boil down to one match.

My question is - if Leigh don't go up, will they go bust? They operate a very expensive looking squad on small crowds - i can't see how its sustainable. Looks like they are gambling on promotion to me.

How can the one off game be fair to a Championship club when it is a game between a semi professional club playing a fully professional Super League Club.

It is only when a Championship Club gains promotion that they can spend the higher salary cap of the Super League and perhaps become fully professional.

In my opinion if we are to have a true promotion and relegation system, a Championship Club should be promoted even if it finishes 5th and the 4th team should be relegated as that would be the case without any Super or Middle 8's under a normal league format.
