Saints said they were sick of him being bigger than the club, if he came to Wigan and did the same, so would I.
I don't care who he coached last season, he doesn't anymore but I still don't want him here
Thinking about it, I don't think ML would want him at the club either, despite his success at St Helens. In Frank Endacott's book, the Happy man suggests one of the reasons he got the boot was because ML likes to be the man in charge, the face of the club, and was getting upset that Frank was the person the media wanted to talk to. Regardless of whether you rated Endacott's skills as a coach (and, having got us to a Grand Final, he was fired after the club slipped from 1st to 3rd, we were getting good results against the top teams and he was actively trying to bring in some big names from his Kiwi side to Wigan - his record at Wigan was rather better than Betts' even if that Grand Final defeat hurt), no-one can deny he's the kind of person people like to talk to, he's very media-friendly, and no-one really wanted to talk to Lindsay at the time.
Since Endacott left, we've heard quite a lot from ML. The coach says his little bit in the run-up to a match but most of the communication out of the club these days comes from ML. Seems a petty, little thing, totally unrelated to results on the pitch, but I think something other than a couple of bad results caused Endacott's departure - was it Chairman Mo's ego that was being hurt by no-one wanting to talk to him, or was it just a personality clash between coach and chairman? And will ML want to risk going through that again with Moaning Millie, who seemingly can't keep out of the headlines?

I wish we could bring Stuart Raper back. In all my years of supporting Wigan he is my favourite. He brought out the best in a lot of players including Terry Newton and Adrian Lam and its down to him that our props are able to offload. He made the players have pride in playing for this club and just look at what he's doing with Cronulla. They are top of table and their defence is awe inspiring. Maurice Lindsay's biggest mistake was ever letting that man go.

And, I hate to say, look where Cronulla were last year! But saying that, that's one departure that ML can't be totally blamed for. Raper had long expressed a desire to coach in the NRL, especially at Cronulla, and when the job came up he went for it. Of course, as soon as he said he would be going there the club got rid (which they didn't do with Farrell) but I'm not sure what ML could have offered him to stay.

A lot of the Saints fans did just that IMO. Thjere was very little critisism of Millward when they were winning.
He got some for the controversial team selections but he also got a lot saying he was right to do it! It really did bring the game into disrepute and to be blunt I don't think he can be trusted.
I can see the attaction in some way at the momement because he was successful and seemed to know how to get the players to play (which Betts doesn't seem able to do) but there must be other coaches who can do that.
Dave
Millward did'nt manage to get Saints playing at the back end of last season with only 2 players missing.
What makes you think he can do it at Wigan with half a Squad missing?

back to the original question if he was free to come to wigan i would have wayne bennett think he has made a lot of contributions to rugby league on and off the field, his coaching of brisbane, queensland and australia have been outstanding and he has been a great advocate for the international scene(he pushed the idea for the tri-nations tournament)

Millward will give Wigan a good shake up. It's been needed for a few years now, Doris needs to retire, and IMO thats the real reason he's gone to Ozz
I hope Millwards appointment is announced tomorrow, we need to act fast, a defeat on friday would be a real killer blow !!!

Why do I think you'll be disappointed tomorrow? They're hardly going to change the coach when the chairman is 10000 miles away in Australia.

You can't hold a press conference by fax machine!
ML doesn't do computers, email and all that. Not too many years ago he wanted to get rid of the email and website for the club because they were costing money but there's was nothing being sold directly via email or the web so these things weren't making any money. He apparently didn't realise that business deals could be made via the web, or you could sell things over the web. His attitude towards modern technology was somewhat frustrating for the people he was employing at the time to bring money to the club.
