Did I read some weeks ago that Radlinski had said in an interview that the Warriors financial planning had assumed 5000-6000 fans at the Saints game? Presumably those plans also assumed that, even if in restricted numbers, there would be some fans at subsequent games. If we are now looking at the rest of this season and potentially the start of next season without fans, then there must be doubts about the survival of Rugby League (and even lower league football) without further government support. Very worrying and planning must be a nightmare.

So are people happy with the fact Lam wants to throw the saints game.

This is a nothing season with league table going off % and a challenge cup that cut out the lower league teams.

Id rather have bragging rights over saints than a trophy in a nothing season.

The prize money for the Challenge Cup is the driving force, despite no crowds. And in spite of everything that's going on out there, it's become a crowded season where it's really difficult to win any trophy and the size and quality of your squad will define the competition.
Also because of the circumstances, the match will be the focus of national media interest, with the game at prime time on national f-t-a tv providing RL with much needed sporting attention.
Financially, if you win, it will provide essential season-making funds to keep the club running on an even keel when there's otherwise no income coming in.
"Bragging rights" in a 1-off match provides only limited local interest, with a hideaway Tuesday slot on Sky, with no financial return and the result forgotten in 24/48 hours.
Think we have to be really pragmatic about this, just for once !

I'd rather have a twentieth challenge cup
