Re: Field
Absolutely did not see this coming. Fantastic news.
Re: Field
There is interest from Wigan in resigning him in 2024 and there were loose conversations about that before he left, obviously dependant on a lot of things mainly how he fairs in the NRL, Tommy as it stands is set to go round again next year. We were on the hunt for a marquee half back for 2023, but if Tommy commits for 2023 then that will be pushed back to 2024, and the fact its looking likely tommy will go round again in 2023 then Hastings could well be on for 2024. Cant really say much more on things for reasons ive explained in other posts, just knew the Field announcement was going to be made tonight so there would be no repercussions of it coming out, turns out Wigan announced it a couple of minutes after I posted anyway so there was no time for the rumour to kick off
Re: Field
Fair play mate. Appreciate the info. I'm not on here much so probably miss most of your content etc. But nice to know someone in the know. I wouldn't mind Hastings back if it was long term to be fair. Regardless, Tommy will need to be replaced at some point.Dan2266 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 7:03 pmThere is interest from Wigan in resigning him in 2024 and there were loose conversations about that before he left, obviously dependant on a lot of things mainly how he fairs in the NRL, Tommy as it stands is set to go round again next year. Jai Field explains 'easy decision' to agree new deal with Wigan Warriors
The fullback has been the standout player in Super League in 2022: and he's here to stay!
Jai Field insists it was a straightforward decision to extend his stay with Wigan Warriors after agreeing a new two-year contract extension with the club.
Field has been the standout player in Super League in 2022, scoring nine tries in seven games and racing away at the top of the Man of Steel leaderboard. His current deal was due to expire at the end of this season but Wigan and Field have acted swiftly to kill off any speculation about him possibly returning to the NRL.
After an injury-hit 2021, Field has excelled this year and his new deal means he will be at Wigan until at least the end of the 2024 season.
It was an easy decision," he said. "The boys, the club, the staff – everything is great and I’m really enjoying my time here.
“Rugby is a funny game. You can be at two ends of the spectrum really quickly. Last year we all know what happened but it’s pleasing to have the start I’ve had so far.
I had a great pre-season and got my body right and credit has to go to the staff. I’ve hit the ground running and it’s definitely pleasing to have started the season in that way. I just want to keep putting my best foot forward for the team first and foremost and keep getting results.”
Executive Director, Kris Radlinski added: “It is clear for everybody to see just what an impact that he has had on Super League this season.
After suffering a very serious injury at the start of 2021, Jai has worked so hard to recover. He is a player who puts you on the edge of your seat when he gets the ball. His highlight reel after seven rounds is incredible and that is reflected in the Man of Steel scoring chart.
“His contract extension is a major boost for the club and a major boost for Super League.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Field
My first thought too. Field is great news of course, but it would be great to keep them both. And if there were berths in the NRL for them (which I'm unconvinced about), it's perhaps more likely that there'd be one for Field, rather than French. It's a shame French hasn't looked (thus far, on limited occasions) too happy on the wing, but maybe that will change.
