Sometimes you have to do right by the players too. Beswick is best suited to the hooker role owing to his size. He has very solid basic skills and let's nobody down. He is 3rd choice hooker at Wigan. He may even slip to 4th given the regard the club has for McClorrum. It's fair to the player and better for the club. Sadly I think he may end up playing loose forward at Widnes.

Dave Allen, shocked people rate him so highly. Very bad breaks injury wise really stalled his development. The player that came into the 1st team was lazy and thus prone to giving penalties away with high tackle. He had also stopped trying to break tackles in favour of offloading every time he had the ball.

Bottom line, salary cap sees Wigan and Leeds offload players that they may have kept to see what if/maybe in the past. Today, it's cut throat and the youngsters are fighting for crumbs in terms of salary.

Widnes actually have a decent youth policy BTW, Frank sorted that, plenty of Wiganers in their academy teams too :)

Sorry, I was using Widnes as my example purely for the number of young ex-Wigan players they've recruited for their first team in the last couple of years, Messrs Connolly, Cassidy, O'Neill and O'Connor spring immediately to mind! And, of course, because that's where Dave and Bob are going. As DaveO says, Wakefield are probably a better example of taking on other team's cast-offs.

I would argue family connections are more an indicement of poor coaching throughout Britain compared to Australia whereby even in Wigan much potential talent lays undiscovered. Most players are family coached rather than by coaches elsewhere. Rugby League in Wigan is also still very strongly catholic based.

The Edwards down to Jackie / Faz down to Peter etc

Look bulldog59, you can post comments like this in every thread you like but the people on this board are not going to rise to your bait.

It won't work,so I thought I ought to point this out to save you getting disappointed.
