An awful swap The only good thing I can think is that Higham is not banned. In a good team Terry is an awesome player, he's the best support player in his position, good near the line and great at finding runners near the line. Higham, Urghhhh. I rate Godwin higher and only hope McClorrum comes through fast. What crappy news
Read my earlier post and tell me what you think, this comes down to more than playing ability, or whether Newton is better than Higham. Just saying Newton is better than Higham doesnt really cover why this move has happened. It goes alot deeper than that and I tried to explain why I think this move came about.
I am pretty sure you are right that the club weighed up the pros and cons of Newtons transfer.
People are focusing on Higham saying he isn't as good as Newton but that ignores the circumstances surrounding Newton. The fact the next season was Newtons last year of his contract and he was only going to be able to play part of it will have been a big factor.
I think it also shows how confident Bradford are in their squad. They can afford to have a player sit on the sidelines for half a season. He has signed a four year deal for them and is only going play 3 1/2.
I don't think we can afford to have a player sitting out half the season at the moment so given the ban situation the club decided to act.

Dave
Thats pretty much how I see it Dave. The club wasnt prepared to sit around wand wiat for a player ti finish his lenghty ban and then leave shortly after he does return. You cannot blame the club for wanting to have a squad that is fully fit from the start of the season.
I am absolutely gutted he has gone, i would have been happy to sign him up for the future, temper aside he is the best hooker in Gb. I never rated higham at St Helens and just because he's at Wigan i won't change my opinion. IMO this should mean Godwin is no.9 as i wouldn't put Higham before him, but knowing Millward and his chum Higham, this wont happen.

But that is the whole point. In my opinion the club has decided Newton can't leave his temper aside. Which means he won't be the best hooker for the club never mind GB.
i beleive ian millward is the man behind all of this ,and seeing the way he turned us around towards the end of the season ,he has my full backing ,yes terrys is a great player but hes gone, welcome mr higham you have some very big boots to fill but i hope you are up to it.Just hope that basil as something up is sleave when he gets off the plane from aus?????? hopefully this world beater we have been promised. We love u higham best hooker in the world just dosnt sound the same maybe a young pretender like the one on my pic :eh:

You don't sign a GB international (which Higham is - hurray, Wigan's got GB representation!) to play him as a bench player behind someone else. Higham will start, and Godwin will be benched as cover for Higham and the halves. They're two very similar players, even in terms of age, but Higham's got more big match experience and if Mcillorum (spelling?) is as good as people say then I don't think Godwin will be here in 12 months time.

I'd rate Godwin as our No 9 hooker now with Higham as reserve. Not sure why people believe Higham has a passing game or that he is technically proficient at passing. Ask any Saints fans and they will tell you his passing is rank. Weve signed a guy who scoots. I honestly cannot think of anything else that Higham has in his locker bar that.
McClorrum is 2 years + away from first team rugby. A fantastic talent IMO but he needs to mature physically and mentally and continue working on his passing which he is doing
So Higham is too old to work on his distribution? Or Godwin for that matter?! Everyone complains that we haven't got any depth and then as soon as we do - everyone complains that they are the same type of player! Granted both Godwin and Higham have similar strenghs, however I would imagine that Millward is well aware of this and would have bought in players that compliment his style of game.
If you go on the BBC discussion site (can't be bothered with RFLans anymore) most of the Bulls fans on there would have rather have had Higham than Terry. Even some of the saints fans have agreed!
I'm not sure about Higham yet, however I'm going to believe in him until I have reason not too. A positive something is better than a negative anything.
At the end of the day Higham's passing will be much better than Terry's for the first 11 matches next season!

Interviewer: So that obviously means that you're not going to St Helens and you're not going to Leeds?
Frano: I don't know why I would ever want to go to St Helens or Leeds

Whatever our views are about whether or not Terry is a better player to have at Wigan than Higham. Our coaching staff and backroom staff are very experienced and have had a lot of success doing what they do for a living. I was a fan f Terry's but he was too hot headed, one minute he could be dazzlingly good and the next he has taken someones head off and cost us points. Like everyone is saying, he could have come back after his ban and played half a season (further bans and unjuries permitting) and then left us for nothing. I am willing to trust Millward with our signings afterall, love em or hate em, Stains have got a lot of class players and that is all down to Millward.
