Why? We are discussing our views on the tackle on Deacon and the extent of his injury and whether we think there was intent on Vagana. If you find a thread dumb you do not need to post a message on it.

Read the post carefully and you will realise I am referring to comments on a different thread.Comments suggesting that Deacon was soft for not playing on.Can't think who wrote them!

My apologies, I did misread it, you are right. You are also right about some threads being a little daft. I think it was GeoffN (apologies again if I'm wrong) light heartedly saying he wasn't as tough as Faz for not coming back on. I don't think it was serious at all.

Doesn't alter the fact that the extent of the injury is not supposed to affect the outcome of any disciplinary measures. It's not Vagana's fault that Deacon had a steel plate in his mouth...you could use that argument against any player who plays when not fully fit and is therefore more vulnerable to injury.
The tackle itself was no worse than many high shots we see day in, day out, in SL, and should receive comparable punishment despite the injury caused.

like i said i wouldnt hold my breath of anything being done but like many hav said he was falling and it could be argued that if he was standing it would of hit his shoulders of chest.

Graeme Norton said to my mate yesterday that they expect him to get a 1 match ban because there wasn't any intent. I think that's debatable, maybe the spear tackle earlier in the series wasnt intentional either. Ruben Wiki had to go to hospital yesterday to have his nose re set, he got it smashed during the match. It will be interesting to see if we have the usual disparity when it comes to dealing out punishments from the Disciplinary committee :conf:

I think the Disciplinary must have viewed Solomonas tackle as a dangerous throw rather than a spear tackle given that he only got a one match ban.

There is more than just the replay that the Discilinary take into account. The referees report needs to be conclusive if he witnessed the incident, they need to take into account other factors such as, in this case, Hape already being in the process of tackling Deacon and as a result Deacon dipped a few inches into the tackle. It sounds like Deacon got hit on the tip of the nose/top of the mouth so a few inches lower may well have been his chest. If it's inconclusive then you can't give any punishment.

They may also take medical records into account for the purpose of seeing how the tackle was made. (I think with the Newton-Long incident they used medical records to prove that Long was hit by the elbow rather than to give the extent of the injury).
