Sam Burgess tipped to leave Warrington Wolves behind for NRL Head Coach role

Last week Warrington Wolves parted company with former Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell raising the question who will take over at the Halliwell Jones?

Initially the club went hard for the former St Helens boss Justin Holbrook offering him a four year deal but in the end he rejected the Wolves in favour of becoming assistant coach to former Catalans Dragons boss Trent Robinson.

Thus, they then turned to Sam Burgess. The legendary forward has been working as assistant coach for South Sydney Rabbitohs in recent times.

He has emerged as the favourite for the role and yesterday the reports were that the Wolves had begun negotiations over the huge move with Burgess informing the club of his intention to become the next Warrington boss.

Following this development Matty Johns has had his say on Bugress’ future.

He backed Burgess to take over at Warrington only to then leave the Wolves behind in the future to take over at an NRL club in the future.

I think Sam Burgess will be outstanding,” Johns said on Sunday Night with Matty Johns.

“I think Sam will have a long and successful coaching career.

“I think if he is given the job he will head over to Warrington. Then in my opinion I think he will be back here coaching an NRL side.

He is a great leader. He has got great tactical sense and he is a player’s man.”

Meanwhile, Nathan Hindmarsh would also back Burgess for success as a coach.

“He is respected within the players and the playing group,” Hindmarsh said.

I think that is a big plus for him. They know what he has done as a player. He has had some great mentors that he has been underneath as an understudy. I think he will do a great job.”

There has been no official update from the Wolves about the potential appointment of Burgess.

It will be interesting to see if they are able to get a deal over the line in the coming days and weeks for 2024 in what would be one of the biggest and most shocking appointments.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Draggy, potential wife beater, proven to be violent.

Sound more like someone saints would take on rather than wire?
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Not sure this is going to work out. He's had too long being a major national celeb in Aus, and it shows IMO.
