Matt Peet makes appeal admission as Wigan Warriors boss talks squad selection for Challenge Cup Final
Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet admits the club are yet to decide whether they will contest the suspensions handed to Adam Keighran and Tyler Dupree, with the pair currently ruled out for Saturday’s Challenge Cup Final.
The pair were handed respective three-match suspensions by the match review panel on Monday following the 19-18 Super League win over Warrington Wolves.
Wigan have the right to appeal ahead of Saturday’s showdown at Wembley, with a deadline of Tuesday 12pm.
Keighran, 27, was sent off during the Round 13 clash and has been hit with a Grade D head contact charge, carrying a three-match suspension and a £250 fine.
Tyler Dupree has also been charged for a ‘headbutt’ with a Grade D, with the England international prop picking up a three-match ban.
Meanwhile, Warriors boss Peet has discussed his squad selection ahead of the Challenge Cup Final against Sam Burgess’ outfit.
If Keighran and Dupree are banned for Saturday’s clash under the famous arch, options are aplenty for the 20-time cup winners.
Academy product Zach Eckersley made only his fourth senior appearance for the club over the weekend but could be called upon again on the biggest stage.
Meanwhile, forwards Mike Cooper and Harvie Hill will push for spots in the game day 17, having not been selected for the semi-final in Doncaster against Hull KR.
“There’s a bit to think about, which is what you want,” the 40-year-old head coach said.
“We’re healthy, we’ve got good depth in the squad. I’m hoping there’s a lot of players keen to play, expecting to play. It suggests we’re in a good place.
“A selection headache is when you don’t have enough players or enough depth. This is just a decision.
"I ask people’s opinions, but at the end of it, I make the decision and I own the decision. I consider everything, and then I trust my intuition as well.
“If we do get those suspensions, other than them and Willie Isa, if someone would have presented this opportunity to me at the beginning of the season, I would think we’re in great shape.”
