The issue with this one (Martin tackle at weekend) is that he wasnt hit high, and play only stopped because Martin stayed down, the ref hadnt missed anything and was playing it right originally. Keighran grabbed around his arm / shoulder and he ran into Havard. He decided to chance it and stay down, and Keighran was incorrectly binned (albeit the ref said it was an accumulation of high tackles).Blackpool_Pie wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 11:53 am I agree, however if referees actually spotted these things you wouldn't see players staying down. Players staying down is a symptom of bad refereeing

Re: Rhyse Martin
on a separate note apart from us calling him for staying down he's a fantastic 2nd row forward and i listened to his post match interview in full and was well worth listening to
he spoke about a change in attitude from the previous week and how the small efforts often end up with results v not. He used the late try as an example, where in the previous couple of weeks he wouldnt have been in position, and most likely would have either not received or knocked on, v being in prime position and scoring v Wigan.
Much as i cant stand Bentley on the pitch he spoke well about him, how he's working on changing his attitude off the pitch, to ensure he stays on the pitch, but its all about getting the balance between winding up the opposition and not getting himself sent off. There was a recognition that Wigan defending repeat sets would tire them, and keep energy in their legs (taking the 2, and retaining the ball) against the coaches preference, but he said it was all about feel on the pitch, and reading the game
i know these post match interviews can only cover off a certain amount, but it was really well worth staying on to listen to and gives a different perspective to what we may see during a game

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I was putting my bets on while travelling to the game! Won £52 so something came out of the trip to Leeds!

I watched the interview with Martin, and agree with the pieman's comments.
