The newspaper has said we've just re-signed Douglas on his contract extension.
I can't see us letting Eckersley go especially when he's still time on his contract and talks will be continuing.

Hmm, I guess he could be getting regular first team spot at Saints as their current centres are injury prone/out of form. Not so clear at Wigan...

He could be, but he'd also be in a side that isnt as good as it used to be and there are no guarantees that they are going to get back to the top side in the country, we've seen the cyclical nature of sport with Wigan, Leeds over recent years and how long / difficult it is to get back there

the other option is he bides his time, gets regular (ish) 1st team action as he is doing, and then becomes 1st choice in say 18 months or so with the current champions, with a settled squad and players committed on longer term contracts

Where does he play though? Wardle has that spot nailed down for years on the left for my estimation. Didn't he just sign a long deal too? Unless Keighran may move to the halves if French may leave in a year or so, he would only be backup centre. I certainly don't wish to see him in big games at fullback unless he really works on the all round aspect of the role.

I rate him. His speed for a centre is really top end, but his all round game needs improving if he is to stake a claim for first team regular. Obviously he's young enough to polish up and he's a fantastic talent with bags of potential, but I currently don't see where he fits in if he wants guaranteed game time.

It's difficult for backs as you don't often see them on the bench, but you obviously need squad depth in the back line.

Keighran is only contracted until the end of 2025. Also with Jai's injury record we need a back up for him.

thats the most obvious in my reckoning and although Miski signed a 4 year deal, i have a feeling he could fall down the pecking order too (note i like what Miski adds to our team, but he lacks real pace for a winger)

I think Keighran was signed on a shorter deal with us knowing we have some young guns coming through, and if they can get some good game time over the remainder of this season and next, then he should hopefully be ready to be taking that starting spot

I know we are talking of a centre, but I think he could make a great winger given his speed and height. We have little aerial threat on the wings, and he's big enough to make the carries out of our own half. Depends what happens with Keighran long term,

If Field is injured I think we should be looking to put French at fullback, Keighran to stand off and Eckerlsey to centre. I don't want to see Eckerleys at fullback again tbh
