Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

we all have blinkers in relation to our own players, and their credentials to win the MoS, as we see them week in week out v seeing a couple of games / TV games for opposition players

Wilkin alludes to Minchella, who i would have no issue if he was in there, as he's been great apart from his brain fart v Leigh

Williams / French are both fantastic players, but i believe have had spells out injured, hence they probably arent in the final mix, but by that token i'm sure i've seen Dufty had missed 5 matches, so you then question how he's got in
Why do you question it? Its obvious how he has got in?

One less thing for the players to have to attend in a busy period.

The players should attend to support Junior and Matty can't just snub the event that would be childish in my opinion. But I still don't agree with The Wigan players being ignored especially Jake Wardle and Liam Marshall classy centre and top try scorer 😔💯

Liam will get the award for top try scorer 😊
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Of course, but there won't be all the advance press and interviews etc. to do. It all adds up.

i might just pop in to watch as my daughter can see the Royal Armouries from her flat :).

Plan - drop her off Sunday afternoon after she's been home to watch the game, and i'll stay in Leeds for a couple of days to pick up the awards on Tuesday :) (or i'll just come home and work as normal :) :) )

More controversial than the year Trent Barrett lost out to a substitute hooker James roby yet again a system that year that didn’t represent the title Man of Steel.Absolute joke.!!!!!!!

It's such a flawed system, in the top teams like Wigan you could literally have a different 3,2,1 every week for 6 weeks, so some players won't get a further point for 6 weeks, in some clubs the same three players could get the 3,2,1 points every week as the rest of the players are just average, yet those players may be nowhere near as good as the one's missing out each week in other squads.

They should pick the best players overall from each round, some clubs will miss out on votes each week but that's just the way it goes sometimes, unless there is a different narrative on what the MoS actually means

Wigan_forever1985 wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 8:31 am The problem with the Man of Steel award is it still doesnt really have a definition of what it is.

It isnt the "best player in the competition" award thats for sure. It seems to always have a narrative associated with it.

I think Lewis would be a worthy winner but you cant compare his efforts with the likes of Wardle for example who never has a less than 9/10 performance.

You also cant compare the impact of a full back playing in a good team to a prop in a poor team for example there is just no basis in which you can form a line there. It also rewards being a good player in a poorer team.
Why can you not compare them?

Football doesn't have an issue with this, there is pretty much always a consensus on the player and young player of the year and I think its voted for by a panel.

The issue we have is that RFL / Sky are trying to entice interest with the leader board, but the consequence is that it favours big fish in little ponds.

End of the day, who really cares?
Because as a half back Lewis is always going to have the ball lots more than a centre he is also going to do far more things of note as he's the playmaker.

So its going to be very hard for wardle unless hes in a team with poor half backs to stand out to the same level
