SMOKING SURVEY
Re: SMOKING SURVEY
I think its great its a disgusting habbit!!!!!
Re: SMOKING SURVEY
Right, I've tried to re-run the smoking survey so people can try casting their votes again. The expiry date seems to keep resetting itself to 0000-00-00 but we'll see if this works...

Ok, it looks like the expiry date, which has to be set for people to vote, resets itself whenever anyone votes so this isn't going to work just at the moment.Fraggle posted:

Re: SMOKING SURVEY
As a smoker and a parent i can see both sides of this arguement.I go to the match as i do to the pub and unfortunatly i enjoy smoking as a responsible parent i dont smoke at home or take my daughter to rooms where she is exposed to passive smoke IE pubs or cafes and restraunts but if i am in an open space with my daughter then if someone smokes i move away. The stadium is large enough to apply this logic and although this view may be unpopular with hardended non smokers we should hve the facility to offer both.
Re: SMOKING SURVEY
Problem is for season ticket holders with reserved seats, we can't move away if someone nearby lights up. We pay a lot of money to watch the game, I don't really want that spoiled by someone blowing smoke at me all the time. And I say that as someone who did smoke for several years, I always tried to think of other people, and would hope that I could survive a couple of hours without a cigarette. It's no longer than going to the cinema.damien morrissey posted:

Re: SMOKING SURVEY
i understand what you are saying Fraggle and yes the logistics of moving all of our season ticket holders would present a nightmare but this has been hastily introduced if this was planned into the 2007 season and announced now then any objectors would have the oppertunity to decide if there current seat was no longer acceptable and yes i agree about the cinema thing but i didnt smoke until after cinemas went non smoking and i dont have the range of emotions at the cinema taht i do at the match the enviroment is so different.
I do not smoke in enclosed spaces around no smokers except in an adult enviroment but surely a designated area could be accomodated even if it isnt in the stands.

Re: SMOKING SURVEY
The question is, "no longer acceptable" to who? The (majority group of) non-smokers, who aren't happy about the (minority group of) smokers, or the smokers who have been told they can't smoke in certain areas? I'm very happy with the view from my seat, have had the same seat since 2001, and if I were to move because of smokers I might have the same problem somewhere else, so it doesn't make sense for non-smokers to move, especially since they are the majority of people.damien morrissey posted:

I don't know what an acceptable solution would be - make part of each stand a smoking section? But then the smokers might complain about being pushed to the end of the stands with a poorer view. Ban smoking, as we have now? No change from the previous regulations, despite the increase in legislation regarding smoking in public places, few smokers, etc etc? They'll never make everyone happy, but in that situation doesn't it make sense to appease on the larger group rather than the minority? I could go on about how in this country we seem to pander quite strongly to minority groups at the expense of the majority opinion, but that's not what we're here for!

Re: SMOKING SURVEY
I am advocating a balance and to be honest never being a season ticket holder i cant fully appreciate being forced to move seats over this issue but i can imagine in the situation reversed i wouldnt be a happy bunny. If i was given a choice between watching the game from a poorer seat view and having a smoke against not being able to fully relax watching the game i would go with option 1. In terms of pandering to the minority i feel as strong about the whole nanny state issue but as you said thats not for here.
To sum up if i could go somewhere even if it isnt in the stand to smoke then i would be much happier than being told i cant.Dubai airport has enclosed smoking rooms can this be suggested as an alternative.

Re: SMOKING SURVEY
Smoking should be banned in all public places.
In my honest opinion smoking should be made illegal after all smoking kills you and suicide is against the law, passive smoking can kill other people which is man slaughter and is also against the law.
I hope more clubs follow Wigan in banning smoking at matches.

Re: SMOKING SURVEY
Walking in front of a bus may well also kill you (or at least will "cause serious damage to your health" or whatever the warning on the side of ciggie packets used to say - shows how much notice I took of that message when I smoked!), but we don't ban walking, or buses. Although I'm sure someone's probably tried legal action against a bus company for not warning them that buses are quite solid and may cause injury to humans or damage to vehicles...adrenalinxx posted:

If people want to kill themselves with cigarettes then I think that's up to them, maybe they should have to pay extra for any medical treatment but ultimately it's their decision. The fact it affects other people is, however, more relevant and for that reason I think smoking needs to be restricted. I can't imagine even going back 10 years to my previous job, being able to sit in an office with a cloud of smoke over the desks as me and the other two smokers in the place slowly destroyed our lungs, although it meant we never got distracted by any visitors as no-one wanted to open the door to our little room! Times change, and increasing restrictions are, I think, inevitable and indeed correct if the nation's habits show that fewer and fewer people are smoking.
