21-Man Squad: Hull FC vs Wigan Warriors

John Cartwright has named his 21-man squad ahead of Friday’s Betfred Super League Round 2 fixture against Wigan Warriors at the MKM Stadium, in association with Jadan Press.

The Black & Whites kick off their home campaign in West Hull against the quadruple winning world champions, aiming to build on last week’s positive start to the season with victory over Catalans in the South of France.

Cartwright has made four changes to the squad, with Ed Chamberlain, Will Gardiner, Will Kirby and Will Hutchinson coming into the squad.

The quartet replace Zak Hardaker (groin), Amir Bourouh (head), Jed Cartwright (hamstring), and Ryan Westerman.

Oliver Holmes (knee), Davy Litten (MCL), Jack Charles (ankle) and Matty Laidlaw (ACL) are all unavailable through injury.

The full 21-man squad can be found below:

1 – Jordan Rapana

2 – Harvey Barron

4 – Ed Chamberlain

5 – Tom Briscoe

7 – Aidan Sezer

8 – Herman Ese’ese

10 – Ligi Sao

12 – Jordan Lane

13 – John Asiata

14 – Cade Cust

16 – Yusuf Aydin

17 – Jack Ashworth

19 – Brad Fash

21 – Will Gardiner

22 – Lewis Martin

23 – Logan Moy

25 – Denive Balmforth

30 – Callum Kemp

31 – Hugo Salabio

32- Will Kirby

33 – Will Hutchinson

Am I missing something Josie? Sam seems to be in the 21. Unless you know something about him not making the matchday squad? I'd like to see him on the bench instead of one of the props. He gives us a bit more flexibility than having three props plus Forber. I hope we can put in a decent performance and get the win. We're already two points behind those other teams in with a realistic chance of winning the title. I hope it doesn't become four this weekend.

Sorry I didn’t explain myself properly. I meant that last week he was 18th man & played in the reserves on Saturday & if the same squad is being played he will be 18th man again.

If there is one issue I have with Matty Peet it is that he is reluctant to make any changes unless they are forced upon him. For example KPP instead of Isa two years ago and last year Nsemba instead of Isa. There are other examples but these are the two most blatant ones

For me, we should have played Eckersley at centre as Wardle was clearly not ready and had Douglas (someone else) on the wing. This will be repeated again unless the coach wants to play Miski into first team fitness.

Walters played prop for Leeds (not exactly the highest recommendation) but he can give options. Picking 3 props and a hooker tells you that the tactic is "down the middle" - which I wouldn't mind if it was effective

Walters looked good at prop in the Reserves, I haven't seen all that game yet but others have also commented in a positive manner.

For a few reasons Hill, Mago and Forber did not have significant impacts v Leigh, although it would be harsh to drop them their chance will come again. Maybe Peet will bring Walters into the team this week?

Just looking at their squad i would think we can stick at least 40 points on them if we play anything like we can

Same here he offers something different with his sheer size seems a little pointless not playing him
