It’s very clear that while some things are seeping through the sheer cost of IMG Ina cash poor sport is a non stater and if it is to be binned (as seems likely)I suspect the vegas jolly up was the nail in the coffin given they had nothing to do with its inception, that said really what is the sport paying them for?

Not sure how at this point how anyone can say that IMG are not fit for purpose or that we should get rid of them straight away, since the grading criteria has been released, clubs that sat back and have done nothing for years are suddenly trying to get their act together and either improve stadiums or engage more with potential fans.

So what do we do, drop IMG and then let Nigel woods take over again, or go back to how things were before, then all the nay sayers can come out the woodwork again and say if the game doesn't do something soon it will be an amateur sport again, IMG have barely started their tenure at trying to bring the sport more high profile and raise the sport, here we are saying bin them off and let a panel headed by those who have been in charge in one way or another do a review of the sport, they have sat back and done nothing for 20+ years, why all of a sudden do we think they are the new messiahs.

If after say 5 years, IMG have done nothing (remember though clubs can and do still veto things they put forward) and are not at least on their way to improving the income/TV deal for the sport, then I would question them, but just on 2 years in, when we can already see some improvements with some clubs, why are we calling for them to be binned off.

And that's why derrek et al want rid. They don't want to spend on that stuff. They only want to win games this season and everything else be damned.

And that's exactly why we should get rid of the 'panel' being created now and let IMG get on with what they are paid to do, if Derek and other don't want to spend any money to promote the game then let them go and buy a club in another sport instead that is flying high like football, oh wait, they all lose millions every year

That would mean a lot of money down the drain.

I'm pretty sure IMG will have penalty clauses in the contract should the RFL bail out of the deal early.

Couldn't agree more.

Salford Red Devils yet to repay RL Commercial for advance on Central Distribution as hope the SL club can fulfil fixtures revealed

RL Commercial Managing Director, Rhodri Jones, has admitted that the central distribution advance given to Salford Red Devils is still yet to have been repaid.

The financial issues of the Super League club have been well documented, so much so that they remain in special measures and under a £1.2 million sustainability cap.

With the Red Devils struggling for manpower, and with player sales continuing to happen with the likes of Marc Sneyd leaving for Warrington Wolves and Brad Singleton to Castleford Tigers, Jones asked whether Salford would be able to fulfil their fixtures for the remainder of the year.

He replied: “That’s the hope and the intention. I’m not necessarily here to talk about Salford as that’s an RFL matter but we certainly hope so.”

That being said, Jones did acknowledge that the attention generated by the Salford fiasco has had a negative impact, but that it is outweighed by the positive news emanating from the sport.

Jones continued: “I’m not here to talk about that stuff but it has an impact as people recognise it and do see it.

“From our perspective, there’s a lot of positive stories to come out from on the field and people are engaging with the sport.

“It’s our job to keep things like that and maintain it.”

The Red Devils were given an advance of £500,000 by the RFL towards the end of last year – and Jones has admitted that the figure still is yet to be given back.

“This will be the last question I answer on it, but that (the central distribution) is still to be repaid

Should do away with bans, instead heavy fining should be brought into it's place, I'm sure the chance of being fined several thousands a year would put a stop to a lot of the shithousery that goes on in the game

Why give back the advance when it is only going to be given back to Salford again, if it helps them to fulfil the fixtures this season then just let them keep it as an advance, as long as they don't fold beforehand then it has fulfilled it's purpose and kept them afloat until the supposed takeover is completed.

It is better to stay afloat and fulfil the fixtures than fold and have the trouble that it would bring if they can no longer operate, that would make a bigger laughing stock of the sport than them being advanced what they will be due anyway.
