Raising the profile of rl maybe ,networking maybe .
8 trys 13 in union is not a bad return so maybe the club know something.

Superb runner who at his peak was quicker than Field or French and probably still is. Imagine the thought is he can add to the options when Miski has his op and brings a bit of X factor that makes up for the lack of RL experience. As he doesn’t count on the cap, a refreshing punt taken by the club.

On the wider note, it signals the club are looking to exploit the RU market and I think that’s smart and exciting. I used to always use Wade when younger as an example of someone who RL should be trying to attract-frozen out at test level in RU but a potential star in League-I hope this means Wigan and other clubs will do more of this with younger players now. Perhaps offer Louis Rees-Zammit big money when he eventually sacks off his NFL venture and doesn’t fancy returning to Welsh rugby’s terminal decline?

Wade to Warriors

* Christian Wade will make the switch from Rugby Union to join Wigan Warriors.

* The 33-year-old winger will stay with Wigan for the rest of the 2025 season.

* Martin Offiah MBE said: “It’s the biggest coup for the sport of rugby league since Jonathan Davies joined me at Widnes back in the 80s.”

WIGAN WARRIORS HAVE SIGNED RUGBY UNION WINGER AND FORMER NFL RUNNING BACK CHRISTIAN WADE ON A SHORT TERM DEAL, FOLLOWING THE CONCLUSION OF THE PREMIERSHIP RUGBY SEASON WITH GLOUCESTER RUGBY, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GREENMOUNT PROJECTS.

Wade, who played for Wasps for seven years scoring 82 tries in Premiership rugby, will join Warriors for the remainder of the 2025 season.

In 2018, the 33-year-old left Rugby to pursue a career in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills, taking advantage of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Programme. On his return to Rugby, Wade played for Racing 92 in France before joining Gloucester for the 2024/2025 season.

The Slough-born winger also represented England in 2012 in an uncapped fixture against the Barbarians having also played for England A and England U20s.

CEO Kris Radlinski said: “The new Talent Pool Exemption was created precisely for this type of recruitment. Christian is an exceptional athlete with highly transferable skills suited to Rugby League. His impressive track record speaks for itself and we are genuinely excited about the impact he can make throughout the remainder of the 2025 season.”

Christian Wade said: “I’m excited to join Wigan Warriors, a Club with a tremendous legacy. I’m honoured to be joining a list of legendary players who have played for this Club. I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my career and I can’t wait to get started.”

Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet added: “We look forward to welcoming Christian and his partner Lisa to Wigan. As well as working hard to learn a new sport, we are expecting Christian to bring his own personality to the team in terms of his athleticism, skill and experience.

“I know Wigan fans will be excited and give him an amazing welcome.”

Speaking about the capture of Wade’s signature for Wigan, Martin Offiah MBE added: “Wigan’s signing of Christian Wade is the biggest coup for the sport of rugby league since Jonathan Davies joined me at Widnes back in the 80s.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I saw this guy with Martin Offiah going in to the stadium before the game, I thought he may have been a relative. I bet he has had something to do with this signing 😊
