We'd prefer it if what they said was intelligible, hence our Russian conversation.
Txt spk is somewhat justified when using a mobile phone keypad, but there's no excuse for it when using a keyboard.

We had this debate quite some time ago, and it was agreed that using this kind of txtspk language wasn't popular amongst the majority of users. The argument basically comes down to the fact that people are here to discuss things, and in order to discuss something you've got to be able to understand the points that are being raised. But txtspk and these silly abbreviations have no standard meaning, they can be interpreted in different ways, and so it becomes difficult to understand. If nothing else, there are lots of people not used to seeing these kinds of abbreviations, and it's not really fair on them to ask them to try and guess what is being written. And not everyone on here speaks English as their first language, we have at least one Latvian contributor (hi Anatol!) and the odd Scouser as well (yes I know, all Scousers are odd...!).

In the early days of the Internet, the rules of "Netiquette" stated that people should communicate on the net in the same way as they do in any other written communication in real life. U wudnt spk lyk dis unless u wuz ali g, and by 'eck you'd's be 'aving trouble t'understand it if folk were typing in t'real way that they talk.

So real English it is instead. It just makes it easier for everyone, and as a moderator one of my duties should be to remind people of the conventions in use...
