I can honestly say that for the first time during 30 years of watching Rugby League I am totally shocked. I went to the Wigan - Saints game on Saturday with a few friends who are Wigan fans (I am a Saints fan obviously) and we were subjected to the most disgusting abuse I have ever seen at a Rugby League match. We were in the East Stand and shortly after Saints scored the first try I was told by a few so called fans around me to F*** Off to the Saints end of the ground, this carried on until these so called fans decided to start throwing drinks over us. This culminated in one fan desperately trying to jump over seats to get towards me, clearly full of rage and without doubt trying to initiate violence.
The most disappointing fact about all this is the fact hat that our sport prides itself on its family appeal, I like many other have spent hours on end over at Central Park totally amongst Wigan fans and without incident. I am so disappointed that this behaviour is creeping in to Rugby League and hope that the mindless thugs who behave like this are weeded out from Rugby League grounds before we end up with a reputation like the round ball crowd!
Yeah were abouts were you sat pal. I saw a little bit of threatening behaviour. I sit on the back row of East stand to the left of the scoreboard and one guy was trying to jump over two rows of seats to get to a fan. Not sure whether it was a wigan or saints fan that was upset.

Don't know if it's "selective memory" but I don't remember that sort of thing happening at CP. We used to go on the Kop, mostly, and mix happily with the away fans (of any club) without any bother apart from the usual banter.
I don't mean it to sound like a "things weren't like that in my day..." ......but they weren't!

And I'd say there were a lot fewer stewards at CP, compared to the JJB, even in the days when crowds were much bigger.
I don't know what era you are referring to but in my early to mid teens, circa late sities , early seventies, away fans wouldn't get anywhere near the Kop !

Attempts were made and were beaten back by upwards of 200 skinheads, commonly known then as the Wigan Boot Boys !! I was one of the gang and, although I'm not proud of it, it was a fact that we had a very active mob, both home and away.

They're facts, albeit shocking behaviour !!

I’m glad to see that these few idiots do seem to be in the minority and hopefully at the next Wigan Saints derby the usual derby day banter can continue as it has done for many years previously, most of which from a Saints fans point of view we have been on the receiving end of many a drubbing by world class Wigan sides. I genuinely hope you get out of the trouble you are currently in and that the usual derby day atmosphere may return – something that the fans and players of both our great clubs deserve.

some of my best freinds are saints fans and we always have a laugh after the game no matter who wins! it is a shame that idiots spoil a great game but its almost immpossible to root them out until they have got themselves a reputation for causing trouble. i have never had any trouble at any games before and the wigan saints derby games usually are the most freindly games! lots of bannter but no real trouble.

What suprises me more than anything is that most of you are suprised by these incidents.
All I can think is that you are mostly very young, or you haven't been to many matches over the years involving us and Saints.
Granted, recently things have quietened down a bit, but prior to moving to the sanitised atmosphere of the JJB it was always a bit tense to say the least against Saints, and the only reason that arrests were, and even still are few and far between is because there are hardly any coppers.

That's the other way round - there are hardly any coppers because there's hardly any trouble. Maybe I always missed it all, but I started going to CP in the 50's and never saw any bother. It was always somewhere that we could go safely as kids, and later safely take our kids.
