My recollection is he voted against because he didn't get the points reduction, hence my thought that Quins owe us nothing.

No, there's something between Whelan and some of the other Stains board members. Two of them are barred for life (not sure if it's their lifetime or DW's !) from the boardroom at the JJB because of issues surrounding him taking over Wigan and the sale of Central Park.

I don't think Quins owe us anything because I am prety sure Mo was opposed to them being saved. Either that or he wanted them to have points deducted which may have seen them relegated.

And I don't think Saints would vote for an expansion to save Wigan as McManus and Co do seem to have a problem with dealing with Wigan as shown by the Newton/Higham saga.

That said it is a majority decision of the SL chairmen that would see the rules changed. Not sure how big a majority is required (e.g. 2/3 or something more than just one over 1/2) but even with a simple majority I just can't see enough if any SL chairmen voting for this.

The simple reaosn is that they would loose money with a 13 team league.

i think that stains would be silly to vote aganst 13 teams. would stains v hull kr etc on good friday attract 15000 plus fans. the big attendances that stains v wigan attract would be a massive loss to them if we did go down. that could also be said for most of the clubs in super league, headingley was packed two weeks ago, cant see many other clubs playing leeds outside the top 4 attracting that kind of support

all teams would have to weigh up how much sky money they would lose if the league was expanded and how much money they would lose if wigan go down. i personaly think it would be sky television who tell the clubs that they want wigan in super league! catalans bring no fans to away games neither do
london, huddersfield, wakey, and if promoted hull kr. sky dont want to show empty grounds on tv and try to say what a fantastic game this is.

whats all this about Quins

I was in the middle of the leeds fans the other day and they all to a man & woman said they wanted us to stay up for the revenue alone.

If we get relegated think of the revenue loss for all the teams in SL.

Our away support is second to none

can SL clubs survive without us, some may be majority probably not
Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White

They might be 4000 fans down for that fixure but that doesn't make up for the £60,000 they would loose if the Ske money was divided up 13 ways instead of 12.

Despite lower crowds for a home fixture v Wigan all cluns would be worse off with Wigan in a 13 team league than wothout Wigan's crowd in a 12 team league.

I am also convinced the powers that be will consider Wigan will easily cope with relegation (I don't share that view) so it will be good for game if we go down showing the game in a good light after past dubious actions as recently as last season with London going bust.

They will see allowing Wigan to go down as an indication of how strong the game is in that it can cope without us. Whether it does or not and whether a league without Wigan in it will coin as much in from Sky next time the contract is up for renewal (which is 2009 I think) is another matter but I do think there will be a lot of satisfied people at RL HQ and in various club boardrooms if we go down.

I think yu are way over stating the importance of Wigan to these clubs. We don't play everone three times and one visit from Wigan is not going to make up for loss of Sky revenue if the league is expanded to 13 teams.

You also have to realise that if it is expanded to 13 teams that means less fixtures for the clubs and so even less revenue.

No way will one visit from Wigan make up for that.

The simple fact is all teams in the league would be worse off with a 13 team competition due to less Sky money and less fixtures.

Even if this daft idea of Wigan forgoing their share of the Sky money came to pass then there would still be less fixtures to play so less revenue than with a 12 team league.
