I suspect even 10,000 might be optimistic - remember we're really talking about away support for all the clubs, rather than average attendances.
This is true but I get the impression the RFL/SL think fans will view this as an event like the cup final. So instead of getting your standard away support making the trip you will actually get your standard home support plus those fans who only ever attend finals. Like the whole family going instead of just one or two who go every week.
If I am right I think they may be in for a nasty shock.

Maybe if it is in Cardiff it will attract people in the South West and the Midlands as well as people in Wales so i would imagine the atmosphere in the 13,000 Cardiff Arms Park by the Millenium stadium would be better half full than a 72,500 stadium with a seventh at best full.

Believe me, League has quite a following in South Wales and now Union is the stronger code financially and top Welsh players wouldn't consider switching any more, there is a lot less animosity. I think a lot of the locals might be interested-certainly in the bigger teams, this could be a big hit.

Is that including the combined regions to save money and WRU struggling included in that statement?

The sad thing is that even with the WRU's lack of major funds they can still comfortably afford to stop any of their stars going to League...

Don't know if any big league club would want any of them anyway no offence but i dont think there is anyone versatile enough to perform in both codes now.

I think it should be 2 NL1 teams because we have only just brought in a new franchise and allow sides to progress up the league as GeoffN said.

If there is to be a rugby league team in Wales, I think North Wales would be a better option, for one North Wales is only a short drive and so it saves money for the fans and also for the clubs as well. Rugby Union is not as strong in North Wales so it might be easier to get support their than south Wales were Rugby Union is probably the main sport
There are not enough people in North Wales to justify a new club, you might get a couple of thousand fans at best. The same argument could be applied to Cumbria, there are questions about whether there are enough people to support SL teams in those areas. Clearly places like Cardiff and Swansea have got the people living there who might be tempted by the new club - I can't quite see the people of Rhyl being as keen...!
Just think of the songs though!
And it's llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch rugby, llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch FC, we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen.
