an 8 point try?????
this got my head spinning to :conf: :conf: :conf:
An "8 point try" would be the penalty (potentially worth 2 points) plus the penalty try (4 points) plus potentially another 2 from the conversion of that try. I think...?

I heard the commentary team banging on about it but they failed to explain what on earth they were on about.

Whoa, I caused mass confusion there hehe.

A meant the criteria for awarding an 8 point try is if a player is fouled in the act of scoring a try, e.g. knees in his back as he grounds the ball.

Someone posted that a penalty try can only be given in the act of scoring a try (which isn't true), I was correcting this not suggesting it should have been an 8 pointer.

Incidently the 8 points come from; 4 for the try, 2 from a successful conversion and another 2 from a successful penalty from in front of the sticks. In reality in can vary between 4 and 8 points.

So actually the team just gets 4 points from the try, and still had to make the 2 conversions to gain the extra 4 points? Or 8 points are automatically awarded? I don't think I've ever seen it occur before that's all.

4 from the try, 2 from the conversion and 2 from a penalty between the sticks.

From the RL page on Wikipedia.

Penalty try, where a try would have certainly been scored but for the illegal actions of the defending team.

Failing to distinguish between someone who is 'certainly scoring a try' and someone 'who is in the act of scoring' as I stated.

If an attacking player carrying the ball rounds the full back and is certain to score but the fullback illegally trips him on the 10 m line then a penalty try could be awarded even though he is not in the act of scoring a try. Thus distinguising between a player who is certain to score a try and a player in the act of scoring a try.

I know this is a little OT but is about Ashton so I thought I'd post on here. Does anyone know the length of his contract? Is it out at the end of the year? Thanks for the help.
