It seems a bit short sighted of the club when these youngsters are the future followers of Wigan RL, encourage them now it makes sense and is probably swings and roundabouts cos when once they get hooked then they will want shirts and all the other stuff but we all know Uncle Mo, it wont only be Frank Sinatra who has 'I did it my way' as an epitaph

If u give out free tickets to school children but they have to be accompanied by an adult say u give out 2000 tickets and all the children went then u get an extra 2000 paying adults to go along. They did at my local football team it was done similarly but they worked with schools and the schools aranged the trips to the games with parents going along aswell.

In a previous post somebody mentioned about a 5 yr old not being able to go because it costs to much. at odsal (i think they probably still do it now) if u could carry your child over the turnstiles they got in free.

Wigan need to get something sorted though for youngsters otherwise there isnt going to be alot of people watching wigan in yrs to come. The youngsters playing on the pitch arent the only youngsters at wigan making the future

The problem is a monthly subscription to Sky is a lot cheaper than having a season ticket. What the club need to look at is dropping the price to get bums on seats. Fair enough it's good to get people involved from an early age...but for the RFL to bring in season tickets for kids at £28 then the club to have the lowest adult season ticket at £125 is a joke. For just me and the other half that's £250 per season, plus away matches...in the real world you can't always find this - especially for those people who want to fetch the family along as well.
You're right that the crowd does lift a game. Look at the Saints match on Good Friday. The stands were quite full (well as good as it seems to get anyway) and we slapped Saints about a bit (I know! so has the rest of the league!!!!) and that was partly down to the crowd. Lets be grateful to those in the South Stand that really get things going...they do a great job!
I think everyone at the JJB needs to listen to the fans on this one....but I think as usual we are asking for too much there!

The club does give free tickets to schools we regularly receive free vouchers, but usually for the less popular games.

Yours must be one of the favoured ones then. I work in a school and we recieved 30 tickets for one game last season. That is not promoting the game, it is just sending a few kids to, like you said, one of the less attractive matches, which at times can be so boring that they would turn the kids off for life.
Give them freebies to the like of the the Stains or Bradford game and let them see how fantastic rugby League can be. This is the only way to draw in the youngsters.

I agree. I don't know if they just give the tickets out to primary schools or to secondary as well but at the Halifax match there was a divide. You had the week in week out adult fans and their families; kids (5 -11yrs) whose parents wanted to go to the pub for the night and wanted a free babysitter or young teenagers who wanted a place to get drunk away from their parents. Sounds harsh but it's true. A kid threw up all over the seats a couple of rows down from us and staggered out with her bottle of vodka and a drunk friend.
It doesn't make for a good atmosphere really and they don't give a stuff about the rugby!

well they didnt give out rugby tickets at my old school but they gave out footy. that worked well, the school provided a coach to and from the match, I think the kids payed for the coach but they got free tickets into the ground. not bad really. if youre getting free tickets every week for 5 years and going to the matches then you're obviously going to end up being a fan and wanting to go after you finish school.
