Exactly! We've spent a blimmin fortune. We'll be docked 6 points next season for sure!
Not necessarily. We've released lots of 20/20 players, so quite a lot of money has come off the salary cap. Moran has gone, Dobson won't be on anything like as much money. SitheeSithee retired, Hargreaves and Brown shipped off on loan... and our initial 20/20 list (assuming that squad numbers relate to quota spots) only had 19 players with shirt number 20 vacant with us shipping Scully off to Castleford. Numbers 14 onwards were mostly younger players on lower amounts of money, so I suspect we were already some way under the cap when we started the year. We don't know how many any of the players who have been brought in have cost, the NL1/2 players will not be getting much and several have moved on. Even Fielden may not be on a big salary this year, with a promise of more riches from next season after the squad has been restructured again.
I'm not going to assume anything about this year's salary cap. I still say that IF we are over, the club look as if they've been juggling things to ensure that we're not massively over. If they had been as pro-active in swapping players in and out last season then we might not be in the mess we are now.

Not at all, he'll have been paid up at the start of the year so will already have had his money. You'll notice I've not mentioned him amongst the 20/20 players that were released, if only because I'm not totally sure how players "retiring" through injury are dealt with on the cap. The suggestion, from the club's statement, is that injured players will still have their full salary counted on the cap, since they named Davico in the statement despite him playing only 2 minutes of rugby for us. However, that's not totally consistent with SeuSeu being released to free up money for Fielden, so there's uncertainty about exactly how this kind of thing is handled. Incidentally, I think the release of Moran and SeuSeu are the two most significant ones, they will have released a lot of money for Fielden and Dobson, with most of the others covered by the players already being released, other 20/20 players going and players being loaned out. I don't think Rads makes much of a difference to this years' numbers.

I suspect when he retired he was paid up in full up til the end of his contract, that would have been at the end of this season. The main bone of contention is whether or not his name is included in this seasons salary list. As Fraggle said, we have offloaded and loaned out quite a lot of players who should go a long way to taking the pressure off the salary cap thus making it possible to afford Stuart Fielden.

what if he just made a mistake?
and i'm sure MO isn't all to blame. A big club like wigan will not just have one person in charge of the money

No, but in any organisation the Chief Executive / Chairman / whatever is the one to take the rap for monumental blunders, of which this is one such. Given that the admin at the club is already very small I suspect he'll have been in the know all along (or should have been), but in the same way that the coach gets the boot for results on the pitch, the boss should get the boot for managerial blunders and dreadful mistakes.

Everybody is getting on there high horses slagging Mo off but it wasn't long ago that everybody was saying spend spend spend and sod the cap. He was sailing close to the wind and just went over unlike a lot of other clubs who just stayed the right side. How many of us would say don't sign Fielden if it meant we went over this years cap

two points is harch for 0.4 percent or whatever it was, but no one can change it, we have exepted it and we just have to get back out on to the field and keep wigan in the super league.

The only thing which confuses me in this whole debacle is how can there be varying degrees of if you're over the cap or not.
You either are or you aren't, therefore why the varying forms of punishment?? :conf:
Why can't all this be sorted out pre-season anyway, at least if points were deducted before the season kicked off every club knew where they stood for the forthcoming season.
Have to agree with previous messages, you do have to wonder if we failed to comply with the cap last season what about this season !!

Because there'd then be no incentive to keep under the cap at all. If the penalty for being 10p over was the same as for being £3 million over, that would just be silly. The scale is explained in the "official rules" thread.
It's similar to speeding penalties: the more over the limit you are, the higher the points on your licence.

Absolutely. I can't see any justification for it taking 9 months to calculate.

This season, we've done something about it by loaning out players/transfers/retirements etc.
I hope it's enough!
