travelling via th'old Hardknot pass (weather permitting)
Best of luck with that - I remember taking my last car up there for a bit of a thrash just after I bought it, and it struggled like mad. First gear going up some of those hills, the engine was behaving more like 140cc rather than 1400cc. French rubbish... I hope you don't have a Citroen!

Im staying in Grasmere (how Honey-pot, stereotype-lake-district-and-touristy of me...) on the friday + saturday nights, travelling via th'old Hardknot pass (weather permitting) sunday morning... making a weekend of it.
I'd recommend avoiding Hardknot Pass, Corney Fell etc. in February, even when the weather looks nice at the bottom it can be awful when you get on the tops. You're best sticking to the more main roads. It'll probably take you the same amount of time and uses less petrol with less gear changes and lower revs.

i will see where it is for you, its not far from where i live, around 1.5 miles from whitehaven in a place called moor row
They have hotels in Moor Row? I think I'd sooner commute than stay in a hotel near Whitehaven (unless I was getting paid that is).

Have you not got a spare room Paul that you could rent out, you could run a message board competition to win a room at Chez Doran!

We're staying Saturday night at St Bees just down the coast - the Stonehouse Farm B&B is £22.50 each including breakfast.

We are staying in Cleetor Moor inland of WHitehaven. St Bees is a really nice place. you can wlak along the cliff tops to WHitehaven in about an hour I think.
